I'll bite. To what are you referring? The silly need to prohibit the "jerkit" smiley because it offends some people? Puhleeze. Get a thicker skin.

Apparently somebody whined about it to the right people and got their wish.

Exactly. I rarely, if ever use the smiley for the reasons that thatmguy states but it is not obscene or indecent, not to mention if you pay for a membership... WTFO! Why should we have to censor ourselves over a silly smiley? Stop being such a baby, grow up and deal with it. If someone feels strong enough about it why don't they approach Spark and have the smiley removed from the site completely. Since this is a family forum, I understand censoring things that that are of a graphic sexual, violent, or grotesque nature but come on, this is rediculous. :barf:

If this is the path that the forum is heading, count me out. Why don't we suggest that all Busses be pink and accent them with unicorns, teddy bears, and rainbows. :jerkit: Guess I'll be getting an infraction.

This brings up a question: If I quote your post as a reference in a response I make, is that the same thing as posting a jerk-it myself? Will I get an infraction too?

I agree. But I haven't been around long enough for my opinion to count.

What's the problem with having some manners? Instead, because you don't like some rule, you intentionally want to push it. Why not just respect the decision? There's other places on this and other sites where you can be as rude and vile as you want so why not just go there?

Bob Mills

It is better for people to think you're a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I think someone already has.

I wish Spark would can that stupid jerk it emoticon as well or limit its use to the appropriate areas of the forums.

It's not the way the forum is heading, it IS that way. I really like the Busse knives and the people behind the company, but It would be nice if there were a forum to discuss their products among men.

I think you presume too much. If you are eluding to me being the "whiner" in question, you are wrong. I haven't even talked to Mike in weeks and you offend me by suggesting I have to whine to anyone. Besides, I am a moderator here as well, if I were to have wanted to take the stance Mike did, logic would dictate I would have just done so. I personally don't feel I or anyone should have to issue infractions for using an emoticon.

As for a forum where men can talk knives, we have it. It is not manly to be vulgar or rude. We are all guilty of being vulgar or ill behaved from time to time, I admit it of myself. But in my own defense, if I offend anyone by what I say or post, please call me on it and I will apologize for the offense and work to make this a more courteous and civil exchange.

Brother, I have a true disgust for politcal correctness, but I feel my stance on the thing in question is not politcal at all. I have a son who is not yet old enough to know what something like that is, but some members here do have sons who are of the inquisitive age who, in seeing such a thing, will inevitably ask his father what that means. Now the father is put in a spot to have to explain to his son what the reference is and also what it might possibly have to do with a knife discussion. I must have missed the memo when we traded in civility and courtesy for the license to do whatever we want.

i dont see it as a license to do whatever we want. most abide by the forum rules, and when they dont are banned, suspended, or such. i have never used that emoticon, however it is there and available for someone elses use. political forums aside, rude behavior here does not appear to be tolerated.

i just cant see punishing someone for an emoticon that anywhere else is acceptable. what about when someone says, 'effing', or s**t? i have seen the use of mild profanities here, have you had the need to explain the meaning of these to your son?

the pic in and of itself is not rude imho, but taken in the context of the discussion or reply attached can be. i think the intent should be the key factor in determining if someone should be punished.

Well said. Must agree

gotta admit, its a little goofy that that little face has generated soooo much discussion/argument.

Why don't we get someone to move this thread to the wc and flush it, er I mean over there every one can say what they really mean, because I know everyone here is holding back out of respect for our peers right.
I have nothing more to say, out of respect.

Bob, I agree that we should all try to conduct ourselves with a certain level of professionalism and agree with Mike on what he stated about the smiley. I have never been rude or vile in this forum but if you choose to make that assumption about my intentions, character, and posting history, please conduct some research. However, when the decree is "do it once and you get an infraction, do it again and you are banned" why should I respect and accept this decision without challenge when I have my own opinions, should be allowed to express them, am using features of the site that the owners saw fit and acceptable (for years I might add), and finally paid to support this site and participate in discussions?

If you consider a smiley to express extreme rudeness and vile behavior then you must live in a different world than I do and I am very happy that you are able to find such a place.

Now regarding your last line, I know that that is a common quote that can be found all over the Internet and I want let you know that I appreciate your professionalism and kindness in exposing my intellectual shortcomings. Maybe one day I will be able to come up to your level so I might be able to be a proper participant in this forum.

I tend to agree with PG. The internet is a big place and many come here. I use to post some things that were not PC until I realized that there really are guys with kids on their laps looking at this stuff. Well I still post things I shouldn't but I try and keep it clean for the most part or just use words rather than images.

But taking about getting dinged for posting stuff reminded me of this

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=427789

that I posted in Community and actually got a warning because in the opinion of the mod it was political and not a “joke” that belonged in community.
I hope things never get like that here. If so you can kiss that strong secondary market goodbye.
