i dont see it as a license to do whatever we want. most abide by the forum rules, and when they dont are banned, suspended, or such. i have never used that emoticon, however it is there and available for someone elses use. political forums aside, rude behavior here does not appear to be tolerated.

i just cant see punishing someone for an emoticon that anywhere else is acceptable. what about when someone says, 'effing', or s**t? i have seen the use of mild profanities here, have you had the need to explain the meaning of these to your son?

the pic in and of itself is not rude imho, but taken in the context of the discussion or reply attached can be. i think the intent should be the key factor in determining if someone should be punished.

Like I said, I would not personally give an infraction for it, my hope is the folks posting here know some of find it offensive and they would police themselves out of respect for others feelings, much like the rash of Zardoz and Crispy Creme swim suit models a while back. Mike is his own man and if he decideds to nail folks for it, it is his decision. I have been a moderator for a lot less time and perhaps there is something there I don't see. Perhaps giving an inch here or there ended up in a bad foot somewhere in the past and he doesn't want to deal with it again.

gotta admit, its a little goofy that that little face has generated soooo much discussion/argument.

I must agree there as well, I think it has been beaten like a dead horse.

Why don't we get someone to move this thread to the wc and flush it, er I mean over there every one can say what they really mean, because I know everyone here is holding back out of respect for our peers right.

Alright, I have to step up here. I mean no disrespect to either side of this controversy, and in person I am well known for my outspoken demeanor and shocking honesty. This is not a children's forum, nor is it truly a family oriented forum. If one of my six children happen onto something they question, then I, as the parent, will answer. I have to be responsible for what they are allowed to see and help them understand in the healthiest manner possible. I am not a puritan, and I really don't understand why a person would take offense at an emoticon or even what this particular one stands for. I find it offensive that denouncing someone elses morals and manners because a sarcastic image is used to humorously illustrate an idea is considered to be mature, especially in this diverse group. I like being here and discussing our blades and the occassional of topic. I enjoy the input and thoughts of others too. But I do find here lately, a mentality that made me walk away from being a minister years ago. Regulations and censorship such as this, in a group such as this, is quite antiquated in my opinion. Let's talk about blades, let's post in a fashion that is truly how we feel about them. If it is out of our realm of comprehension and acceptance, then move along to what holds our interest. I know I sound like a liberal right now, but like many conservatives, we forget that the principals we often credit our moral values to, came from a book about a man who was killed for his outspoken ways and untraditional ways of describing how to live. Don't pretend to be better because you're enlightened as to what is more polite and ethical. Don't be an ass because someone else doesn't agree with your use of vocabulary. We're here to discuss Busse Combat and all it has to offer and enrich our lives. Let's do that and do it freely. We have Brothers and Sisters fighting and dying for that right at this very moment.

On that note, I think most of us have made about every point that can be made on the issue. I don't want to see our forum spiral into a flaming mess. I regret that a comment I made in passing in another thread was taken to this extreme. Now let's all shake hands and get back to talking about knives.
