Thanks Hunter. The "English Steel" stamp seems soo crazy to me coming from a PA manufacturer. If you follow the Best Axe... link, you'll see it's marketed it as 'gunmetal finished'. Whatever they did, it has held up for 100+ years and is smooth as glass.
I've recently found an American Axe and Tool company double bit with 3³ on one side with Robert Mann Mill Hall Pa 5? With the Glassport indian trademark on the opposite side. Unfortunately it appears the handle was burnt out so i am worried it is no longer tempered. Not sure how to upload pictures here or else i would..
Test it with a file. It's likely still good. The 3³ marking indicates a weight of 3 and 3/4 pounds. You have to host your photo on some other site and link to it here.
