American Flag on Schrade Box.

Personaly Im really dissappointed in taylor (but not surprised), not that Ive ever liked his products, or business practices. The new schrades, are nothing more than cheap chinese cultery dressed up in a "shiny" suit (and a really cheap looking one at that!)

You know, I tried an excuse like that on my Dad once. Just once. "Well, Bobby Joe did it first Dad!" Pow!

Maybe Taylor is refering to the badgers. Both Irish and Chinese. At any rate, it seems that there is some degree of market resistance to the chinee charades. Particularly among the non-newbie collectors and brand loyal folks.

Has anyone complained to their state attorney general about the flags on the boxes? Some are quite aggressive. Why not contact your state's attorney general's office?

Mr Taylor has the backing, Mr Taylor has the out of country money, Mr Taylor has connections who get appointed and elected by the voice of the people unfortunately Mr Taylor apparently had no idea of any legal or moral violations regarding the packaging of HIS company and in fact it seems it is all Schrades fault. The fact is Mr Taylor is no more guilty of anything more than any other american dupe who will line his pockets until the enemy gets tired of selling us there junk and just buys the country ( americans are easier to buy than whip in a fight) Yes do contact your Attn Gen I have a bill in the senate now regarding knife laws it has taken 4 years to get this far and it is only to appease a loud mouth like me who raised so much dirt that to shut me up me they finally put in a bill which I have said from the beginning was all smoke and mirrors. Chances are it will die in committee. It is a joke . No one cares, Mr Taylor will or will not change his packaging whenever he damn well feels like it and you know what, more power to him. No one cares and frankly it has all gone to far to matter. I just enjoy the quaint idea that writing a letter or contacting the attn gen matters. I am sorry to destroy illusions with my cynacism it I had any brains I would be on there team instead of spending the rest of my life tilting at windmills as I have for the first 60 years. The only thing important about the flags on the boxes is the message they send regarding the real problem and that is they do, own , and infact control it all and do whatever they want. We really have no recourse at all. I used to have a friend wh was a Bobbie ( policeman in London ) in those days they carried no firearms. I once (over a pint) asked himwhat he would do if he came upon a bank robbery and the robbers had machine guns ( and he was unarmed ) he said he would "blow his whistle and order them to stop". I asked what he did if they shot at him and continued with the robbery his answer was " well then I would blow my whistle again ". My suggestion regarding Mr Taylor and all the communist goods coming into this country is the same answer to this analogy. Blow your whistle again for whatever good it will do. LT

He will if he's legally compelled to do so.

It does matter, it's just that nobody takes the time to do this.

For instance some state Attorney Generals are aggressive about prosecuting fax spam. Yet few people bother to contact them. They may not know or care that it is illegal.

No. It's a deceptive business practice and it can be stopped.

I see the communist goods coming into the country and the decline of manufacturing as a separate issue. This is about deceptive business practices.

I appreciate and am in agreement with your feelings. However while if legally compelled to change his packaging Mr Taylor would. The fact is he will not be. Special interest and money will simply allow him to do as he wishes until he so deems it to his advantage to change his policys. The inference that the Attn Gen is unaware of his practices is more than quaint it is naive. It is as realistic as the letter in this thread in which Mr Taylor thanks the writer for making him aware of this issue ( as though it was the first time he had ever heard of it ). Please excuse my cynacism but 26 years as a peace officer has made me aware that enforcment of the law is not always equal or fair. A fact which I often brought to the attention of my bosses ( not superiors ) and had quite a negative effect upon my promotions during my career. I see deceptive business practices and the manufacturing, importation factors as being two sides of the same coin and quite related. If Taylor took the flag off the box and instead had MADE IN COMMUNIST CHINA BY POLITICAL PRISONERS IN SUPPORT OF A DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT AND THE USA. With there flag. Would that have an effect on Sales, importation, ect? Would it then be related? Truthfully is dosen't matter there are so many issues of this nature that it is simply overwhelming. I have nothing against Taylor heck he is putting a lot of people to work selling and storing and transporting these cheap commy goods. In fact I see these products improving until the enemy has a complete monopoly then they will sell us what they want at whatever price they feel like. Your attitude is more than commendable and I certainly support your efforts I hope ( more than hope you prove me wrong ). Good luck I have an extra lance for your next windmill. Don't give up I want to be wrong. LT

Here is one ebay seller who possibly is embarassed by the American Flag on the China made knife box. He covers it up nicely. Seems he is also not really going to come out and write 'Made in China' either. Sorta hedging his bets all the way around.

These new things from China are not selling well, at least on ebay. And they sell dirt cheap wholesale. That may change if Taylor gets some big national retailers on board, like Lowe's or Home Depot or a hardware chain.

The attached item is an article which appeared in our area paper THE MIDDLETOWN RECORD this morning AUG 1, 2005. It really seemed appriopriate at the time since this discussion had made points on the validity of foreign products advertising and its relationship with imports and policys toward them. I brought up that Mr Taylor is only one example of the unending line of pirated items and copied cheap imports. This extends to almost every field and this article is just an example of that. The fact is when we allow a country to set its own rules and then do business with them we in effect place ourselves at a disadvantage on an uneven playing field. As I pointed out in the past if Schrade would have been allowed to make automatic knives in competition with the Chinese junk that is proliferating the market place they would still be in business. Schrade adhered to the law and is gone. These items are coming into this country by the cargo ship full. The uninformed uncaring public are buying them by the boatful. There are laws in place to stop this traffic and they go unenforced perhapes the Attn Gen is just not aware of it. Or perhapes in the name of political expediency and a few perks it is just overlooked. NAA Not in the good old USA. Yes in time there will be enough hue and cry and these practices will stop only then it will not matter and the reason it will stop will be because it no longer matters and of course so that our represenatives ( politicians, attn gen ect ) can take a bow for the great job they are doing. Time is all our master and while the wheels of justice grind small they simply do not grind fast enough to make any difference. By the way the answer to the switchblade laws is not enforcment but rather just throwing these antiquated idiot laws away all to gether and worry about more important applicable matters than a knife which in some cases has a 1 inch blade and is 100 years old. But that is another lament. LT

I filed a complaint with the FTC about the use of the flag on the box. My understanding of the law is that Taylor is probably NOT in violation of it since the box is clearly marked "made in China" on the end. If the box had not been marked or marked in a way the wasn't easily noticed then Taylor would have been in some trouble.
The FTC did assign my complaint a case number so at least Taylor is on their radar.
I purchased a "made in China" Badger and it did not have the flag on the clam pack. I remember being shocked when I saw "china" on the knife and I went back to check the packaging. There was no flag and a very small "made in china" on back of the package.
