American Handgunner

Ouch, that is a <DING> right there. I like old Colts, and Spingers. To be honest, for the money, if you can find an old Ballester Molina in a pawnshop or show, you can get them for around $250, and is actually what JMB thought was the perfect combat side arm.

Moose,

I never hear many people mention the Ballester Molina, so I thought I would share a pic of mine. My Springer and Izzy were cryin' to get in on the fun, so I let them join in on the pic....:D

Very nice, very nice indeed. They are a damn good gun, IMO. Some argue the fact, but the Argentinians didn't have the qualms that the US did about the grip safety. JMB went there and helped setup the machining, and other than a slight difference in the parts, they are a 1911 sans the the grip safety. Damn fine guns. I like the story about salvaging the metal from sunken battleships, its a good ghost story to tell the 1911's before bed.:D

I have had 3 in my time and actually got rid of them in finacial struggles. I accurized them and had them shooting tight at 25yds, not the 1 ragged hole groups my 1911's do, but within 2". How much did you pay for yours if you don't mind me asking? I see them run pretty cheap in the pawn shops here, say, $300 max.

I don't have a clue how the Izula got in AH. They didn't contact us as far as I know

I'm with you on the plain Jane 1911, Moose. My little Rock Island is a great pistol. Very simple and classy, and has a silky smooth trigger. Not sure if they're all that way or if the boys at RIA were just having a good day, but damn it shoots sweet.

Shotty says they sent some off to the marketing department. When I saw it, I was a little taken back, I believe its the first time ESEE has been in AH, but I thought, wow, good coverage, its one of the most read handgun periodicals out there, IMO.

From the contest, sorry for the size, its what they got up on the website.

AH has been a consistently good gun mag over the years. Their willingness to bring knife reviews to their readers puts them ahead of the pack. I was really happy to see Grayman featured, I like what he is doing, making users.

Actually wasn't it 1908 and it wasn't adopted until 1911? :D

Go Izula.

1906 is when the selection process began. In 1907 J.M. Browning design and a Savage design were picked to under go further test. Then after Browning design fired 6000 continuous rounds on March 3rd, 1911 it was officially adopted as the sidearm for the U.S. Armed forces on March 29th, 1911.

AH has consistently been a good gun mag over the years. I have as a result owned maybe several dozen 1911's... and I have moved on. The 1911 is the sum of its parts and I grew weary of it's general ability to present problems. Any gun is a compromise somehow, but I find perfect reliability with excellent accuracy from Glock. When you answer the question "what are you using it for" one finds woods carry mandates the Model 29 or 20 and urban needs can be met with the model 36, 26 or a J frame. A person will spend less money and have greater technical satisfaction. Consider the esse offered.... it is a low budget, robust and capable knife. It would be in better company with Glocks, (sorry, couldn't help that:))

I have a Gen 4 Glock 22 and love it but my 1911 will run with it everyday of the week. For me they are platforms I would bet my life on.

Moose,

I bought my Ballester Molina in 2004 for around $275 (I used my "Curio and Relic" FFL and had it shipped to me from Florida). At that time, I could only find a few available for purchase around the country, so I jumped on it in case they became harder to find in the future. I think it's an interesting fact that the British government bought between 8,000 - 10,000 of these to be issued to the British "Special Operations Executives" agents, to be used behind enemy lines during WWII. My specific Ballester was not one of those used by the British.

I took the original wooden grips off of mine and replaced them with some after market grips. I've put many reloads and factory ammo through this battle tank and it just keeps spittin' the lead out....and, is very accurate as well.

I just don't bother telling you anything anymore. You always forget anyway. :)

I got your email but do you realize how long ago Blade show was and how many thousand people I've drank beer with and talked to since then about knives? ;)

I remember the name, address and social security number of every person I've ever talked to, what the hells your problem?

:D

I don't even remember talking unless it's a good looking crazy woman, then I can tell you anything you want to know. Was this AH guy cute?

Damned shitty economy, I have had my eyes on a springfield loaded for 1 year now, and still dont own it. I digress.....

+1 I know whatcha mean. That and the frickin Springields are hard to find NIB. You can get a Taurus fairly easy. Then u can trade up if the 1911 is what you really like.
