American Kami

Thanks for your responses, good and bad.

Sorry if my language caused offense, but I have a tendency to write how I talk, and I am a believer in the Carlinism that "There are no bad words, only bad intentions." "Bad words" are a part of our language, and I feel that they're a useful tool. I'm a regular guy. I won't forsake honesty for political correctness. So I drop an F-bomb from time to time.

I thought I was being more blunt than vehement. I'm a passionate guy. I love what I'm doing, and believe strongly in it. I work very hard at it, and I pay for it in blood. If what I do weren't a big deal to me, I'd be doing something else.

I'm all for taking the high road... But that mall ninja comment pissed me off. Maybe I shouldn't have let that get under my skin, but it did. That'll be cause for some personal reflection. I know this is the Internet (what's that simile about arguing on the Internet and the Special Olympics?) and I know that nothing is all things to all men, hence not all will be pleased. But what can I say? I'm not a perfect person. I read something on the Internet and it pissed me off. Maybe I should have filled out one of these forms instead?

;)

Honestly, calling the American Kami stuff mall ninja'ish is pretty stupid. It is very well made and cool designs. While you may or may not like the chisel grinds, they are pretty bad ass. To insult him is pretty bad form imo.

Well said mang!!!!!!I came across this after just cutting some shit,up with my Prototype Chopper made by DJ and justl my 2cents one of my favorite knives&makers!!!!!!

Wow... That's ALL you got out of everything I just said? Well then, allow me to retort:

Actually, what I'm doing is speaking truth about Cold Steel, not insulting someone who modifies their product. I said:

1) Made in China.

2) Where's the steel come from? We don't know.

3) The company steals other people's intellectual property.

Great business model right there.

If you like Vec's work, whomever he might be, then by all means, support him and buy his stuff. But don't expect me to sit here and wave a fan banner for Cold Steel because that shit ain't happening. Why don't you buy a fucking Estwing and send THAT to Vec to have him mod it instead? I think that's a much better choice than Cold Steel.

The steel is 1055, not hard to read their web-site.
Don't care in the least if you don't like Cold Steel, but you made a negative comment about Vec's work, without it seems even looking at it.

Try to practice what you preach, if you bothered to look at Vec's work before you knocked it I might understand.

I took your words as an insult to Vec's work, if it wasn't meant that way no problem.

But I don't really care enough about you or your product to get into a pissing match anyways.

DJ, let me start off by saying that I've always liked your designs (especially the riot spear), and I hate chisel grinds! I mean that as a compliment. If I had the extra cash, I would own several of your blades.

But, I do have to ask if all the profanity is necessary. One or two people don't like the designs; big deal. You can't please everybody. ;)
My comment had nothing to do with his designs.
I personally think that Vec's work is great, and far from soulless hunks of shit.
I could care less if he hates Cold Steel.
His statement included modified Cold Steel tomahawks by people like Vec, he knows that Vec is well known on this forum as he was replying to people that mentioned Vec's work.

He took offense to his work being called Mall Ninja then calls the work of people who modify cs products as hunks of shit.

If that is not what he meant then lets see if he is man enough to admit it. If that is what he meant, then he shows himself as arrogant and not someone I would deal with

Wow that what you got out of reading my post.
I didn't say anything about Cold Steel.

Manghu67, as I stated before, your work is interesting. Not my cup of tea, but interesting. To each his own, I say. Your attitude and expression thereof leave a great deal to be desired, however, and do you no credit. I can and do curse with the best of them, but I try to limit it to appropriate venues, such as BF's Whine and Cheese subforum or the privacy of my own home. You may find that folks take your words, even your insults and criticisms, more seriously if phrased politely.

I like the look of the green handled combat steak knife version 2. What's the wait time like for these?

Like the combat steak knife and bowie! Why do you only do chisel grinds? Could probably do a Scandinavian grind by just flipping it over.

maybe Vec should not have responded so harshly, but he obviously loves his work and feels great pride in his knives. Mall Ninja was a little harsh. You would feel the same if someone took one one look at whatever you do and and instantly dismissed it as crap. The designs may not be for you, but they seem like great quality. When I hear mall ninja, I think of knives that are guady and fall apart within a week.

Imagine if you were a landscaper and someone walked by and said that it looked like a little kid mowed that lawn. You'd be pissed too.

I’ve seen the chisel grinds on does blades, they are very bad, it’s just a disappointment when you pick one of his knives up then turn it around and surprise!!!
It’s funny that they always displays the knives, whit the normal side facing you. It’s a big letdown we you turn them around.

This is just an opinion. No insult intended. No need to shitcan mi disrespectful comments manghu67

Vec never posted anything here and I have changed my post so that everyone can stop crying and throwing tantrums about someone's opinion

And to me mall ninja doesn't mean that it is crap but ascetically appeals to a over the top type of crowd

That is fine. It's just my interpretation of mall ninja. I don't know Vec. I just assumed that the guy who was upset was the guy who made the knives. I guess I did not realize Vec and and the poster were not the same person. Seems like anyone who read these posts, would think that if they did not know these people. I made a simple observation based on the comments I read. That is all. Would not call it a crying tantrum. Sorry I don't know everybody.

It's probably cus it's easier to grind just one side so he doesn't have to try to match the one side with the other.
To me it looks like ass.
I will never own a knife that is chisel ground.

I'm sure that's why Ernie Emerson, among many other well known knifemakers have so often used it, also. Bunch 'o hacks.

I love the designs of the hawks and knives. I too am not a fan of chisel grinds. I understand their usefulness, but just don't like them. I have owned Snody and Grayman and probably would have kept both if they weren't chisel grind. I would also buy one of these hawks if I could get a different grind....or maybe I like them so much I'll buy one anyway. Great work!

Different strokes for different folks. If zombie hunting is on the menu, Kami seems the place to be. However if you are looking for something more of the bushcraft variety or general purpose you are probable going to go elsewhere, regardless of who's name is on the blade.

I don't like chisel grinds ether, but ak makes some really cool stuff. And if I were going to buy a hawk strictly for eating flesh it would be one of his.
