I just recently discovered this knife company after seeing a picture of their stuff in the Blade 2010 thread. I checked out their site and if you haven't already, you MUST!:http://www.americankami.com/index.html
This is the knife company i have been looking for! insane looks, useful applications, wide variety, and great pricing! I haven't even handled one yet and i'm hooked on the designs! anyone else have the chance to handle one or the experience of owning one?
here's some of my favorites:

Not my cup of tea, but the workmanship looks first rate. The "Combat Steak Knife" is kinda cool--not sure about the combo hollow/chisel grind, though.

Lycosa will be along shortly (he's a fan boy of the chisel grind). I would like to have an AK EDC.

Those SICKles certainly have a lot of, as you say, "...useful applications..."

Out in the field and one needs a nightmare grind corn detassler....and if the corn field turns into a Kung Fu/zombie movie...even better!

Pure practicality!

And those TACOPIs! I know when I got a long day of serious chopping planned...I want a knife with lots of pointy bits on its handle scales!

well the sickles aren't for sale, and yes they aren't very practical but another thing i said about them is that they look sick...i think they fit the bill there. as for the handles on the tacopis, yeah i noticed how pointy they were after i posted the pic. i'd sand those down or get it w/ smoother handles.

I'm here.:)
I'm a fanboy of quality knives and people. :D
DJ is both a craftsman and a very nice guy.

Hahaha thats Exactly what I was thinking.

They arent my cup of tea, I hate chisel grinds (in looks and the way they perform to my tastes) and I am not a fan of pointy shaped handles. I always find handles like those uncomfortable. Now dont get me wrong, those are some wickedly cnc'd and ground looking blades. Some of them I might like if I got a chance to hold them....but they arent for me.

Ah. I guess that explains the name.

Particularly in a chopper. Not a lot of axes, khukuris, etc with radically textured handles.

They certainly have "....insane looks, ... wide variety, ..." and are "sick".

As far as being functional tools with "...useful applications, ..." ....I dunno.

Maybe making a tool was not the designer's intent. And that's fine. Nothing wrong with a knife that just looks cool. It is what it is.

His designs are striking, and the workmanship appears to be flawless. I hate the chisel edge he puts on everything though. I would have ordered from him long ago if it weren't for that.

I have one of his zombie brain eating titanium sporks! Neat little piece and DJ was a pleasure to deal with.

The fit and finish seem exceptional, but the designs scream "mall ninja" to me, and I despise chisel grinds with the white hot fire of a thousand burning suns.

I just don't see myself spending hundreds of dollars for 1095 chisel ground knives, no matter how original the designs, or how perfect the fit and finish.

I'm sure he's a nice guy who makes a quality product, but the knives just do absolutely nothing for me. If you're a chisel grind fanatic like lycosa, they are probably your dream knives :p

i am normally not a chisel grind fan but i wouldn't mind getting a few of these..and now that i've calmed down from the original post, i don't think i'll go all out and get a collection of them going. i think the chisel grind is done very well and for these styles i think they wouldn't be too bad...and hey, they take less time to sharpen;)

I've got an STN model on order. I'm not normally a fan of chisel grinds. Especially since most of the time when a chisel grind is used the grind is on the wrong side for right handed users. DJ puts the grind on the proper side for right handed users so I figured I'd buy one. The STN isn't a big knife and it's a tanto style that I've never seen before. It called to me when I saw it and I have a feeling that it's going to be a fantastic knife for use at work.

I agree. I think his designs are breathtakingly beautiful, but the chisel grinds and the spiky handles kill it for me. :(
