Has anybody heard of the American Knife Company? I saw some of their stuff online recently, and see they're made here in Michigan, but don't know anything about them. The Forest looks pretty nice, I like the blade shape and handle combo, they're not a common mix. Anybody who has one, or used one, I want to hear what you think.

Jim Nowka, from The Knife Journal Poscast, formerly the owner of Knife Forums in partnership with Bark River Knives.

EDIT: I don't have any of these yet, but hearing Jim talk about them, they seem pretty solid.

Good people, and a good company. I've shared a campfire with Nowka and consider him a friend.

The Forest Knife is similar to the Skookum Bush Tool. Of interest to this forum will be the Cruiser series which will be similar to the old Marbles Ideal.

The Forest knife is actually an older design, tweaked on the Skookum. I had one of the elusive Skookums, and the Forest knife looks to be a sleeker design.

I have a Forest in GCM headed my way. Should be here early next week. I will fill you guys in on it after I have had a day or two to get familiar with it.

Hadn't seen the Cruiser Series, lovin' that one. Marbles made so many cool knives.

++2 on how nice the Hess boys knives are. I have a Muley and the F&F is supurb.

Thanks for the input, I doubt I'll ever get one (I got my Mora and an empty wallet) but they do look nice, and I would love to support nice people.

I'll have to see a top-down picture of their handle. Having big mits, its something I'm very picky about

That said, they look very Bark River to me (also made in michigan). Being KSF, they're probably quality if they sell them.

I've asked him about a convex edge with a flat grind, he didn't shoot it down, just said he would see how the sales on the scandis do.

I'll see if I can get some more pictures for you.

Bark River makes these knives for AKC and KSF is the biggest dealer for this brand right now. They would be the first place to check for all the new models coming out.

I have an old Sabre Barlow that I know was made in Japan but I was surprised to see "American Knife Company" on the tang. Obviously not what everyone here is talking about.

Bark River has about 100 knife patterns they make (just a guess, could be more). There is a pattern for everyone.
American Knife Company knives are Bark River knives with a different branding. So why buy from American Knife Company ?
Maybe the patterns have a slightly different 'tweak' but likely there is a Bark River similar to every American Knife co pattern.
Whether BRK or AKCo. the knives are expensive, $200-$350 range, so it's not like Rough Riders in that you can buy a bunch for little money just to try out.
I don't get the reason for creating this new knife company.

Hey guys, hopefully this will help. I have decent sized mits. If this doesn't show what you need, just let us know. links below pics will take you to a larger image.

How do the AKC knives differ from Bark River knives ?
Are they targeting a certain market ? maybe those with large hands ? or ??
I have bought a number of Bark River knives and they are as good a user as any custom; i.e. you cannot make a better user fixed blade.
What does American Knife Company offer to differentiate their line of knives from BRK ? It would need to be something rather special to get me and other established BRK customers to switch to AKC knives.
The only aspect i can see to get BRK buyers to switch would be price. BRK knives have become as expensive as custom knives. If AKC could provide knives that perform equal to BRK but are less expensive then i could see a reason for this new company to exist. What i have seen so far is that prices are about the same.
