I have always been partial to the Cold Steel American Lawman since first seeing it. I thought that it was a very good looking folder with a great blade shape, and handle, plus it had the new Tri-Ad lock. In an earlier thread some weeks back, the subject of CS came up and I posted about liking this particular knife, but I would love to see an XL model, with a 4.0" blade. Then The designer of the knife, and creater of the Tri-Ad Lock, Andrew Demko, talked about a couple of the Cold steel products. In the same thread I asked Andrew if he made custom models of the AL. Well, a few emails later I have a custom made American Lawman being built for me. And it is going to be awesome!! Andrew was very patient and allowed me to make choices on several parts of the knife rather than saying, "No, my way or the highway" so I am pretty pleased with what is going to be built for me.
Here are the basic specs for this knife. The blade will be 4.0" X .187", and hollow ground. Steel is CPM154. It will have the Tri-Ad Lock. Handle material is going to be G-10 Brown Coyote. It will have titanium liners .100" thick, which is definate overkill!, but that is what I wanted and Andrew agreed to build it. The handle slabs will only be 1/8" thick so that the handle will not be overelly thick. Also, instead of a fiber back spacer behind the midlock, it will be a titanium spacer. Pocket clip is going to be mounted high and tip up, and possibly a foldover clip that will put the entire knife in my pocket.
This will probably be a heavy knife, and something like my Strider AR, but I have no problem with that. I have carried my Strider in my right front pocket for months at a time with no problems. I'm just really stoked about this knife as it is something I've thought about since I first saw the American Lawman. Another plus is I will be able to pick it up in about a month!
Andrew was kind enough to send me some pics of three of the American Lawmans he had built, and all three were gorgeous, especially the one with the Coyote Brown G-10. I had a chance to buy one of these, but they were built using no liners, sorta like the new American Lawman, and I'm just old fashioned I guess, cause I want liners on my knives. As I said it will have some massive titanium liners, and couple that with the Tri-Ad Lock, it should be as sturdy as the come.
A big thanks to ya' Andrew for building this knife for me!!:thumbup:
