American made, affordable flipper?

I'll throw my vote behind the Skyline, simply from a customization standpoint. At the price point its hard to beat when you consider the sheer amount of colors and blade finishes you can choose from. I recently completed my franken-Skyline with orange scales, "damascus" blade, black hardware, and black deep carry clip. All that under $115 all said and done. You can really make the Skyline your own if that's your thing. Just my 2 cents.

Also, I would be cautious with blemish knives, make sure you go over your particular blem carefully. A scuffed knife scale can make for a steal, but if the lockup is off or something equally significant is the issue, you may just be just flushing your money. Just be careful and thorough when you go the blemish route and you'll get yourself a nice blade for a nice price. Good luck!

Blems might have some very minor cosmetic defects (scratches, inconsistent coating, etc.) and have no warranty, but they're perfectly functional knives otherwise. If you're planning on it being a user, a blem may serve you well.

If you want to try out a Vantage for just the cost of shipping, drop me an e-mail, I'll send you one I have with G10 scales and 420HC blade.

If you need the knife to be a manual flipper (not assisted-opening), you might try contacting a dealer like whitty here and see if he cannot check for a Kerhsaw Link with a proper detent that can be de-assisted for manual use...

It does not, or at least both of mine don't. Same is true with most assisted Kershaw models. That's why the Showtime having a detent is a big deal, because it is one of less than a dozen I know of.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the look of the link but how does the steel perform?

I also like the camber, a little more expensive than what I was looking for but not that much.

I really wish the vantage was a better knife, it looks great to me but I've just read far too many cases of it having poor build quality and not flipping well.

I was looking at Kershaw guy and they've got some good prices on some blem's, I might go there once I decide what I want. Any reason not to get a blemish knife?

No reason not to check out a blem. The blem is usually cosmetic and hard to find.
It's a great option to try out something you're not sure about.
Kershawguy is great to deal with also!

Blems do not have a warranty but Kershaw Guy does have a return policy. Look it over when you first get it and check the lock. I got a blem Leek and I am at a loss what the issue is that makes it a blem. It looks perfect to me and I paid a lot less than new for a knife I use (as my signature suggests).

I have the skyline and the knockout. The knockout has a really strong assist it can fly out of your hands if you aren't holding it decently secure. The skyline is light and buttery smooth. Both are really good but are night and day different IMHO. Unfortunately I have no input on the link but after seeing the suggestions for it I may have to give it a try. Do you want a smaller or larger knife handle and blade size?

Thanks for all the suggestions, as most of the time it seems I went in an entirely different direction than I thought I would. I found a turbulence (1790) for sale very cheap, and then found a Spyderco domino for only $100 ( I know, not a USA blade but still a USA company). I spent more than twice my original $50 budget but I think I still got a good deal on both. Anybody with a turbulence? From what I can see they are discontinued.

Glad u found something. You can never go wrong with a spyderco. The domino is on my have to get list. You definitely picked a good one there. As far as the turbulence I have never even heard of it until your post. A quick look at it makes me think of a toned down tilt. Not identical but similar. Let us know what you think when you get them in hand.

Very interesting review can't wait to hear what you think about it. I'll definitely have my eye out for one at least to try it out.

Good choice on the domino, I have the blue cf version and carried it for about a year straight.

Daaaaaaayuuuuum! That is a fantastic deal on a Domino! I had one for a while and regret getting rid of it. The ergos are phenomenal, the action was perfect (perfect flipper or hole action), and XHP is a great steel. That reminds me, I need get another Domino!

kershaw skyline all the way for manual flipper!
if assisted is ok, then scallion, leek, & shallot are super sexy!

I had a Turbulence for a while. I loved the blade shape and stout build.

Tim Galyean and Kershaw knocked that one out of the park.
