Amerikilts

Love the unbifurcated gear. As you say, a bit of a gesture. The ladies all seem to like it. Have my tartan kilt which gets worn on formal occasions with the full jacket & kit. I've got a black ghillie shirt which I wear with black hose for a less formal outfit.
I work up in the Pacific (Samoa, Tonga) from time to time and have some formal lavalavas. Plain blue or black, no pleats and cotton. Much more comfortable than shorts when the temp and humidity are both up. And still smart enough with a shirt & tie for business.
The Amerikilt looks good, I may splash out.

It reminds me of attending school (7th and 8th grades) in Scotland in the early 70's, my parents shipped me and my brother to Aberdeenshire to get some real schooling. Had to wear the family tartan which was Hunting Scott (modern) for the Friday evening dance, usually twice a month, I was coaxed into wearing it with the gift a sgian dubh. Had a great time after all and got into attending the Scottish Games both there and here in California when we returned. The Scots consume a whole lot of whisky, and every January 25th I have a extra few drams .

To celebrate my Celtic heritage, i think i'd rather just sharpen my claymore & paint myself blue & recite "Scots what hae..." by Robert Burns.
