I'm wondering about the History of Ames Cutlery Co.

I recently aquired this Easy Open Jack and cleaned it up and , as we all do, started wondering about its age and history.
I did some searching and found some information on Ames Manufacturing Co. in Chicopee Falls, Ma. That company started in 1829-1935 and did make cutlery as well. But, this knife is marked, Germany.
Here is a picture of the knife and I'm wondering what history anyone can help me dig up about the company so as to learn more about this knife and possibly date it.

If anyone has an Ames knife, please post it as well

Thanks Jake! I did not know of that resource. I think this one qualifies for the "Old Knives" thread.

Thanks Stich. This one really is in great condition for its apparent age. It cleaned up well.

Ames Manufacturing in Chicopee was a swordmaker, making government contract swords from 1832 until the late 1800's with production peaking during the Civil War. I own some Ames swords. I have never heard of a folding knife, though.

Unfortunately Levine's Guide 4th edition isn't on there but Blade's Guide also has a preview. Too bad Goins' Encyclopedia isn't on there also. I think the "preview" probably works better than the publishers intended. But I do own copies of the books. I'm sure you'd like Levine's Guide and Goins' Encyclopedia --definitely worth buying both.
