Amicalola Falls and FT Mountain Hikes

Great pictures. I live about 8 miles from Amicalola and this was a perfect weekend for hiking, camping, etc. Have been on those stairs many times. Did you ever go before they had the stairs?

If you get the chance take the 5 mile hike to the Len Foote Hike Inn at Amicalola.

Thanks for the pics.

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about! That set up is quick, fast, and in a hurry too. Thanks for the pics. I'm gonna check out the Warbonnet.

Is that skeeter net part of the hammock or is it an add on?

With the warbonnet, the netting is built in. I dig the hammocks a lot - they are hand-sewn in America by a hobbyist who loved hammocking but wanted to improve on what was out there. The warbonnet is specifically designed for laying on the diagonal, so you can get flatter and have less of a banana shape to your back. It's even more comfortable than a normal hammock.

You mentioned quick setup - the warbonnet has an awesomely quick setup time. Rather than ropes, it uses two webbing straps, with carabiners and ring buckles. You slap one strap around the tree, clip the webbing to itself with the 'biner, and adjust the buckle. Do the same thing on the other side, and you're done. The only knots you need to tie on the setup are a pair of backup half hitches in case the buckles slip. It also has an integrated ridgeline, which serves two purposes - one is to hold the bug netting up off your face, and the other is to keep the sag in the hammock the same, meaning you get the same comfort level every time you set up. It makes setup a breeze, and eliminates a lot of the tweaking you might otherwise have to deal with.

More importantly, though, the warbonnet has a really cool shelf on the inside of the hammock - it's a great place to throw your headlamp, wallet, and jacket while you're sleeping.

I dont know why. But when I see people laying down in those hamocks, I think of a blanket party waiting to happen..

They do leave you somewhat exposed to foul play or predetors, but we don't have superpredetors in my neck of the woods. Even so, I sleep with a real party pooper if you know what I mean.:D

I always think of pinatas or those soccer balls you can put in the rig that comes back after kick it, oh the could fun you have

Great pictures.

In the last one, is that the Falcon II on the boy?

And on hammock camping, I love hanging at night but I won't write off a night on the ground. Just make sure you practice a bit at home before you head off for your first hammock camping trip as the first night can be a bit daunting with your bed moving back and forth every time you move a bit. Then it becomes a really nice feature--like rocking to sleep in a cradle. :)

That is the Falcon 2 on juniorspark. He'll most likely be getting a PF2 for his birthday or Christmas. I really like the PF2 and juniorspark was eyeballing it pretty hard....:D

LOL! Kids'll do that.

That's why I just cut out the middle part and bought my boy his own Izula. :D

awesome pics man... that looks like a gorgeous area....:) thanks for sharing...

Those pics are great!!! we have the ocean down here but sometimes I miss the green trees!!!

Hehe a cluster of hammock campers all tucked in with the tarps and lines going this way and that makes me think of a gypsy moth catterpillar nest.

I think i'm gonna get a hammock setup, I want to get into camping and backpacking, but the two things that always worry me is the weight and bulk of a tent, and I get a lot of back pain and sleeping on the ground sounds like it wouldnt help.
