I know most people know this.....

And I know it has been said many times before.....

But, I just got off the phone with Amy a little while ago and she has a way of perking up the day.

I have been stuck at home since Friday as I pinched a nerve in my back Friday. It is causing pretty bad pain in my back, left hip, left thigh and left knee. :(
I can barely manage to walk hunched over about 20-40 feet or so before caving to the pain. Can't stand up, can't lay down, can't sleep and lot's of pain.
Went to the chiropractor Wed. - X-rays shows a degrading/degraded disc that is allowing/causing a severe pinch on the nerve. That and something I did that triggered it.
Treatment/therapy Wednesday and again today hasn't provided any noticable help. :( I am trying to remain optimistic.

Hydrocodone seems to work enough to make sitting tolerable and allows for "some" sleep. But, still can't walk or work.... Sleep is only for minutes at a time or maybe an hour if lucky. But, Hydrcodone (same as Vicodin) makes me nauseous :barf:.
No work means less money for me right now. And extra Dr. bills means double negative.... triple if you count pain and inability to sleep or do most anything. So, my recent INFI purchases are extra hard to justify.... will need to intercept mail to hide evidence. :o

Anyway, talking to Amy was uplifting. I look forward to recieving my package to enjoy some guilty pleasure awesome INFI.

Forgot to bug her again for her cheesecake recipe. ;)

Hey, now that sounds painful!

I've just got back from taking my wife to the doc's with what we think is a a trapped nerve. Sounds similarly painful to yours but she's got it in the arm, shoulder and most of her left side. Can't sleep for it, etc. Doc's given her some 'good' painkillers!

I get displaced vertebrae all the time due to an old skiing accident, they cause all sorts of fun, so I know what it's like too.

You take care! Hope it settles down for you soon. Some infi on the way is just what you need!

I hope your Back feels better....and it was a pleasure talking to you also:D

She tends to have that effect on people, I think I call just to hesr her chipper little voice and maybe order a NMSFNO but mostly just to talk to Amy-O. I sure hope you get to feeling better, that sounds like it is really painfiul.

GET WELL SOON!!!!!

Man, I hope you feel better soon.

If it comes to it don't let them start surgeries...or only give them one chance at the most.

After 4x surgeries in 4 straight years, the last with peticle screws and titanium rods, I am MUCH, MUCH worse than before surgeries.

I know how you feel on the Pain Med:barf:, I'm allergic to all Narcotics. I take alot of other stuff that helps me deal with it, and sleep a few hours a night. If your not sleeping ask you Dr to give you something, you body can't heal as well without sleep.

And yeah, Amy does Rock!!!

Get better soon bro, that sounds miserable...

Congrats on the INFI, what did you get?

Thanks for all of the well wishes. I haven't seen any improvement in the last week... I actually feel worse. But, in spite of the first two crack and pop treatments not seeming to help, for some reason I still just assume it will get better (?????).... hopefully soon though.

Ken, you are right on surgery. I am fine with stitches on skin and such. But, when dealing with the spine and spinal cord, I would be VERY nervous.... (no pun intended). I usually do pretty well and can manage pain fairly well without meds. But, this has been hard to tolerate. Pretty bad when I choose nausia. :barf: But, the those narcotics do help.

Eli, I just paid for two NMSFNO's today that I ordered back when they were first released. I don't know if they shipped today though. I need something to fondle and drool over. Maybe they will get here before Thanksgiving - something to be thankful about. ;) - Even if it doesn't appear likely I will be able to take out for fun. :(

I originally had to pass on the NMFBM as I just couldn't do the price at the time. But, I REALLY wanted that one. So, when it came back up in the Ganzaaa, I had to go for it. Also, I used to have a HH that I LOVED and didn't want to sell. But, I had some finance issues at one time a while back and had to sell it. There was an FSH option in the Ganzaaa, so I pulled the trigger on that too. I have never had the FSH. But, I think the slightly lighter weight should be more ideal (???????)... not sure. Selling the HH was one of my biggest regrets for selling any knife. Hopefully, a standard FSH replacement will be as good.

I am curious about how the NMSFNO will compare to the FSH since I have both on the way and they seem quite similar except for handles.

The Ganzaaa was before my back issue. I got my email from Amy saying I scored on the Ganzaaa and then that the NMSFNO's were ready.

I had the money for the NMSFNO's and paid for those, but with a bunch of Dr. bills and missing one week of income and at least one more week (next week) from not being able to work, I am going to have to look for other ways to scrap together some "change" for the most expensive INFI purchase I have ever made in such a short time..... and then there are bills. :( Luckily, the NMFBM and FSH are not yet ready to ship. I hope I can get some finances worked out in time. All of these rank high on my INFI list.
I am really liking my SARSquatch though. Thanks again. My SARSquatch and my modified SJTAC are two of my current favorite pieces... no I still haven't finished modifying my SJTAC yet. :o ... But, I have it functional and have been using it. ;)

I feel your pain! 12/07 I herniated L-4 and L-5. Eye crossing instant pain! One month off, back to work 3 months, then 5 months off and back to work again. Pretty much the same as your symptoms. 34 therapy sessions and 3 epidurals later, still in pain but functioning.
You will get better but it will take time and patience. Try Tylenol PM to sleep and if not ask your doc for some Lunesta or similar med if he approves.
I know some folks swear by chiro's, and i have been helped by them but I suggest having a your family doctor check you out and refer you to someone with a little more experience. Don't mess around with your back.
Stretch as much as you can tolerate...especially the back of your thighs.

I should have called Miss Amy-O to chat when I was layed up.:(

Amy drinks liquid lightning. I'm convinced of it...No other way she can have as much pep as she does. :D

Hope your ordeal ends soon and you can go out and beat some INFI....

:D

You have my sympathy - I had back probs for years. Non-manipulative chiropracty and acupuncture worked for me

Alternative is elctrotherapy with a TENS(?) if you have an aversion to needles

MAN.... I hope I am not going down that road. :(

I did end up having a nasty reaction to the hydrocodone last night. I don't think I can mess around with that stuff anymore. Ufnortunate, because it did noticably help the pain. :(

Here is where things start getting bad. I am actually in between jobs and don't have insurance right now. While still trying to get my resume to other companies, I have been doing some side work with a friend who is doing renovations from hurricane Ike damage. The "noticable" injury happened while working. But, I am working as contract labor - not as an employee. He is a pretty good guy and I don't want to cause him any problems. I don't think he is insured for stuff like this and why I was working as contract labor.

The "on the job" incident was rediculous. I was just standing on a ladder holding a piece of 1"x6" hardi-trim board above my head. When I stepped down from the ladder, I had instant pain and instantly had to bend over - I haven't stood up straight since. It just seems silly. I must have just twisted wrong or something. For the record, I am not over-weight and generally in pretty good condition. Prior to the last 6-8 weeks where I have been working about 60 -65 hour weeks and too tired to go to the gym, I had been going to the gym about 3 times a week. At about 6'2" and 176 - 180 pounds, holding a piece of fascia trim board (actually just one side) on a ladder shouldn't be stressful. I have done WAY heavier lifting routinely over many years and recently.

I went to a chiropractor who could take X-rays. The X-rays clearly show a degenerated disc and a severely pinched nerve. The chiropractor says the disc probably took some sort of traumatic hit years ago and has taken a few years to wear down (?????) or something. I did have a lower back injury playing football in high school. I don't remember it very well other than I rememeber everything hurt then too: sitting, standing, walking, sleeping, etc. - But, I am very confident it is much worse now. Still weird to me as I haven't noticed any back issues in 25 years or so.

In any event, I now don't have income, don't have insurance and I am struggling to pay Chiropractor bills along with my other bills. - Not good.

I had scratched together enough money to buy some INFI.... But, that was based on assuming a constant income. That may have just changed. I hope I can find a way to get some income coming back in or I don't know if I can keep my new prize INFI pieces. :(

I have more time now to spend working on sending out more resumes. But, I am concerned how well I come across to a prospective employer when I show up at an interview in agony and hunched over like Quasimodo.

Currently, I have a very hard time walking to the bathroom or kitchen. Walking into and out of an interview while trying to maintain any type of "pleasant" look on my face sounds dubious.

I would put her on speed dial for times when I need a boost (Actually, Busse's number with her name is programed into my phone :o ) except I would feel like I would be interrupting her work and until I get my stupid issues back inline, I am probably a downer anyway. But, most everybody is a downer next to Amy.

I suggest you ask about Lidoderm patches. They may not be the complete answer but should help a bit to releave the surrounding tissue/muscle pain.

Avoid Oxycontin. If Vicodin makes you nauseous then Oxycontin will probably have you retching. Phenogrin works well for general nausea. Carisipridal works decently well for a general muscle relaxant, could help too. As an extended release pain med Morphine sulfate ER seems to work well for me.

I have had a migraine for coming up on five years straight. I have a degenerating disc at c4, c5 but all the doctors say its not the cause of the problem. Had a 15k surgery in June that wasn't covered by insurance. Add to that my Grandpa just dying, my Mom needing one of my kidneys, and the wife being pregnant, things are just wonderful...

I live in Houston I might be able to help a bit with things locally if you need it.

That girl is like sunshine on a cloudy day.

Oft looked for and always appreciated. :)

Amy-0. Making the world just a little better every day.
