Then you have the "elf choil" on the SAR 4, which is the only fault I find on an otherwise great knife.

- LMAO - EXACTLY!.. I haven't heard that term: "elf choil", but yeah... I particular can't stand the choils on the smaller knives (AD, Meaner, SHBA, SAR4 and MANY others)that are WAY too small for actual finger use/function and WAY too large for anything else. They waste VERY prime blade area and create a snag corner on the blade.
I hope it is OK for me to borrow and use your "Elf" term without being in fear of legal concerns.
-----------------
The tank buster is a large enough knife that the choil is at least potentially useful for choking up....
I imagine those numbers would be MUCH different in knife 5 inches or less in length. Imagine an active duty or game warden with no choil - they would sell like hotcakes.

I don't personally mind "functional" choils on most blades 6" and over and "sometimes" between 4.5" - 6.0", but much under 4.5" - 5.0" blades (depending on design) and I generally don't like choils.
And I think quite a few people agree that:
1) Over a certain size blade and choils are fine, or functional
2) On the TB, the choil is actually a "Functional" sized choil - as opposed to the "Elf" choils on many smaller knives that drive myself and many others crazy
So, I don't think the choil option on the TB is as relavent as it would be on say a SHBA, AD and many smaller knives.

Its not so much the choil on the large knives but the combination of the choil/talon hole on the small knives that I hate. Takes away from the functionality of the blade.

I like a choil on a fixed blade of any size, including my AD. I have lots of other knives with no choil and like the look and feel of a choil.
Granted, you have every right to like what you want. But, for the life of me, I can't understand HOW anyone can appreciate the "Elf" sized choils on the AD and similar knives.
It is not functional being too small for a finger and otherwise too large.
How does it help or serve you?
And why do you like it?
I am not intentionally trying to give you a hard time. I am really just curious if anyone can provide an answer other than liking how it looks. If all you have is liking how it looks, fine - to each their own - everyone has that right.
But, I have not yet heard anyone offer a functional justification for otherwise "wasting" a good area to have a sharpened edge and replacing what could be very functional sharpened edge with a hole that doesn't do anything other than snag stuff.
