An accidental treasure - found!

I knew before I went to the Blade Show in Atlanta I was going to buy a new folding CR, and I ended up with a very nice find!

In a booth near CR's I found a beautiful, new Umfaan with blue circles. The circles just sparkle! When I brought it home and showed it to my two daughters, both said in unison, "Ooooooooo, pretty!"

It turns out there were very few of these made.

When the Umfaam first came out, 50 were made with circles that began blue at one end and changed to gold at the other. These were numbered prototypes and sold quickly! Apparently, a good customer of theirs wanted one with blue circles so CR agreed. However, it ended up that a bunch of these blue circle scales were made by accident! Fewer than the prototypes. So, while they aren't numbered, they are still very limited!

The rest of the Umfaams made with circles were not anodized and were the same color as the titanium.

I'm very happy with this little accidental treasure!

Am I going to use it?

Oh, yeah!!!!

A while ago, a poster expressed a desire for
a blue circle Umfaan. I poked through my humidity controlled, inert gas atmosphere, continuous Tuf-Glide spray sock drawer

, and happened to find one.

I sent it to Chris and Anne, and the poster agreed to have them replace mine with a current model (I was doing this as a favor, and didn't want to make any money on the deal). The Reeves verified that mine was genuine, and sent it to the very grateful poster, who had the Reeves send me a current model.

So this (anonymous) poster gets his blue circle Umfaan, and goes berserk with joy! He then for reasons unclear to me, decides to protect the scales with WD-40. He sprays it on, and in horror watches the blue circles turn grey!! He calls up Anne in a panic, and she gently told him just to clean the WD-40 off with Windex, and the blue would be restored (the WD-40 film changes the refraction). He sprayed with Windex, and his blue circles returned! I just wish I could have seen his face!!

Congrats on the knife it really is a beauty. The Blue circles make it come alive.

HA! HA! Walt!

Thanks for reminding me. Anne must get some really unimagineably unusual/odd phone calls.

As much as I miss the knife, I believe it's found a pretty good home in StJames cabinet.

I wish Chris had made more than 40.

Nice Zig-Zag Umfaan, StJames - no one has a pair like those two.

Walt, I have to say that your actions are one of the most thoughtful and considerate things that I've read on these forums in a while. And to think we used to call you "wacko". Good on ya, Walt. I'm sure the good karma conveyed will find its way right back at ya!

Thanks for the kind words, Don. I have been treated in the same manner by other forumites. One sent me a Mad Dog Wild Thing before I had even got a check in the mail!!

What goes around...

You never know what you can find out on this forum!
I picked up ablue circle Umfaan at the St. Charles, MO knife show last month. Guess what, I got for a trade (WH) and a bit of cash! I didn't get for free but I feel I got a good deal.
