I have been wanting to check out a Fiddleback in tapered 5/32 A2 in bushcraft type tasks for some time now, and the Arete is one I have never fielded. So finding an emerald burlap, tapered, 5/32 A2 Arete in the reserves cache at the forge seemed somewhat providential. This is not a review, I haven't used the knife much yet, and haven't gone through all of the photos I have taken yet, but these are some shots from today while I was out in the snow looking for some things, and collecting some photos I need for another project. I thought the shots turned out pretty cool and thought I would share some of them here with the gang.

I carried the Arete in the mid-tech Bushfinger sheath and realized I need a couple more of these sheaths.

It nicely tapered and just barely handle heavy with the balance point just behind the first finger. That is actually fine for me in a bushcrafting or general working knife, it isn't off balance enough to notice in use, but doesn't strain or fatigue the wrist like a blade heavy knife can.

I really like the spalting on the A2

I stopped and whittled a couple of feather sticks, I like the way it handles, the handle is really comfortable as usual. It also has a really nice grind and edge.

Beautiful photos Brian, havent had the pleasure of handling an arete myself, but its likely my next purchase (well, its neck and neck with KEB). The green of the burlap is very intense and pleasing, and really dig the kephart (plus Andy sexy'ing it up as he does with all Fiddies) like silhouette of the whole knife. Having had similiar profiled knives, I can imagine it being a great jack of all trades kinda knife. The matching ferro rod is pretty sweet too. Great catch :)

What great pictures mist....just a pleasure to look at over and over again. Thank you!

Thank C-man, The KEB and Arete have definite similarities, but the KEB is pointier and the Arete has a bit of a gurad. Andy's Kephart is one of my favorite knives ever. I want one in stainless very badly. Blaine (Swonut) made the ferro rod. I think they go well together, and Blaine's ferro rods are very nice and throw great sparks.

Awesome as usual Brian [emoji106][emoji106]

Thanks Abe, glad you enjoyed the post!

I've been wanting an Arête really bad for going on a year now. That one is absolutely fantastic! Love the matching fire steel.

Beautiful shots Brian!! I personally love the arête. You picked up a great looking one. I hope you enjoy it!

I have wanted to check one out for some time myself. I think this one is gorgeous, I couldn't believe my luck in it being in the reserves trays. Blaine has made some awesome matching ferro rods for me, and they work very well.

Thank you Todd! I can definitely see why you love it, I am very much enjoying using this one!

Great photos! Nice feather sticks there too :)

Thank you! Yeah, I get a lot of practice at making feather sticks here :)

Thank you Andy. Yeah J did really well on it, but like the others you brought it to life in stellar fashion my friend :)

That's it Brian, I am selling some knives to buy better camera lenses. Your Ultra HD 4K pictures always blow me away with the clarity and lighting. You always bring out the best in your subjects.

I too am a big fan of the Arête. It is more svelte feeling than my favorite Bushcrafter, but just as capable. It is sort of like a scaled up Hiking Buddy which is a good thing in my eyes.

Brian, as always, your pictures are just amazing! I always look forward to viewing your threads. I'm also a big fan of the Arete. I have 2 that I carry often. Both are 1/8". One in Leopardwood with a tapered tang and the other in Tangerine Shadetree that's SFT. Both get a good amount of use especially on my longer day hikes. I prefer it over the BC because it's slightly pointier and has a somewhat narrower blade profile. I really want one with a scandi grind. It's a great all around knife. Thanks again for another awesome post.
