An Article in the NYT on Knife Rights

Thanks for the link.
That was worth reading. It's good to know there still is some common sense out there. I hope it spreads like wildfire.

It's encouraging to see this in the NYTimes. Good article.

One (minor) thing that makes me scratch my head. They feature a pic of a knife that, according to it's caption, is a 'knife made by Mr. Holder' (referring to D'Alton Holder, who's quoted in the article). If I'm not mistaken, the pictured knife is a Schrade ('NKCA' trapper, w/stag scales and a missing round shield, apparently). A little odd.

Here's the referenced pic:

It's good to see that a liberal paper can be objective

This sounds not only like a backhanded compliment, but also like more "backhanded" than "compliment". If you have a problem with liberals, that's fine. Thing is, some of us are "liberal" in the sense that we believe liberties should be understood in the broadest practical sense. From a legal standpoint, people should be allowed to express their ideas unless there is a compelling reason for the government to prevent them from doing so, and objects specifically considered weapons should be regulated only as necessary for public safety. (While this may be similar to a Libertarian point of view, unlike a Libertarian I don't believe unfettered capitalism would be good for anyone.)

Anyway, divisiveness is not in the best interests of conservatives who favor keeping knives in the hands of the American people, or who would like to eventually see a repeal of the Switchblade Act of 1958 / 1986. And "liberals" are not as easily defined as one might think. After all, you never would have seen any assault rifles toted by people protesting G.W. Bush.

Being objective once is a blue moon isn't much to crow about though. God forbid papers and journalists were ever objective and unbiased without a political agenda, I won't see that in my lifetime. Then again, papers as we know them likely won't survive longer than my lifetime.

Thanks to the OP for sharing the link.

If you choose to stay there, then that's the price you pay. Regardless of circumstance, nobody is forcing you to stay there. Not trying to be a dink, just sharing a fact.;)

No problem with anyones politics ..Liberal or conservative .

The NY Times has been an Ultra liberal stance to the left of left . To be fair This may have shifted .
Being objective is just good journalism .

You're right ---I could and would move ..
Only small details like 3 kids in College . This only delays the ultimate move .
I'm sure there are many states / cities that are going through major issues .

Without doubt, this I'll agree with. Where I live, there is zero job market unless you're in a medical field or want to work in a mall or something for minimum wage.

Exactly. The NY Times is a far left paper (and thats an understatement). For them to print a story like this says a lot.

Great article and the Times is an extremely one sided liberal paper, so this is an amazing article for them. I know many if their writers through my work, and I was amazed when I read how even handed this was written.....

I'm reading opinions here that the NYT is "far left" and "one sided". I would agree most journalists working for the NYT are on the left side of the American political spectrum. Far left though? Didn't the NYT endorse the invasion of Iraq? How is that far left, exactly? But back to the point -- the paper should have had someone on the "knife rights" coverage, since the DA's actions in the Manhattan knife seizure could go to the US Supreme Court. The bigger story might be if it didn't get there. In the classic sense, knife rights issues in New York City are news.
