A couple of days ago I got a Royal Mail package that contained a knife I bought from a friend in the UK. It is a knife that he has had for a while, and it’s patterned after the Woodlore, and made by Mick Spain.

I thought it only fitting to take it on a proper wander for it’s first one in the states. One of the areas I like to wander around in is a prairie type meadow on the other side of a little Poplar wood. The first colors of autumn are starting to show.

I found some coyote tracks in an open spot on a path that skirts the meadow.

And what I think is some black locust.

Then there were lots of colors in and around the high grass.

Then I spotted this little guy as I skirted to meadow.

After the walk I just sat and enjoyed the end of the day whittling.

Then I took a parting shot of the moon as I was heading home. I think it was a fitting wander for the knife’s first outing in a new land.

Always enjoy your pictures and commentary. I like the pattern on that knife as well. I have been doing lots of macro photography lately myself. Thanks for posting.

Great insect pics.. and no spiders :D

Haven't had a day with that much blue in the sky here in quite a while. (Not counting today) Fall.. one of the best times of the year is right around now with the changing of leaves and such, good time to be out and about.

Great pictures!! Tell me more about that nice walking stick!

Thanks man. Actually that was one I picked up in a shop in Gatlinburg when I realized I had left my old one at the car wash the last time I washed my truck. I think it is cherry but it's hard to tell with the finish on it.

Beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing. I like the knife too.

Thanks Rocky! I've been wanting an England made bushcraft knife for years.

Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed them. Yep been waiting on autumn for a couple of months now.

Yeah, I've seen several of knives of his that I've liked. Nope, English Oak.

Posted any pics of the knife yet?

Looks like a fine spot to take a great looking blade for a walk MistWalker. Great pics as well, thanks for sharing!

Thanks man, and yeah that area is great for a walk, especially this time of year with all of the color. I took my youngest with me yesterday and let her explore it, she had a blast.

Simply Beautiful!

I know it is your favorite time of the year.

Thanks for the compliments RB, that means a lot to me. And Oh Yeah, I have been waiting on this for months!

Great pics as always Mist !

Ironic that England has so many many great knife makers and yet the country is super anti knife...heck you can't even have a locking SAK !!!

I never tire of fall outdoor pics, they are so beautiful ! I was doinking through the brush today and came across a geocache. Gorgeous blade B.T.W.

Great pics really showing the change in season. Mick does make excellent knives. I have a couple of his myself.
Slight correction, Pitdog, England is less anti-knife than New York and you can have a locking SAK (if you can find one). You can have any knife you want, you just can't carry in a public place without "good reason". Non locking sub 3" folder is exempt. Certain knives are deemed offensive weapons per se (flick knives, balisongs, gravity knives, the usual) and there is not normally good reason to carry in public (exemptions for filming, demonstration purposes etc.). It is actually not illegal to own (even banned weapons) the offence comes from selling, manufacturing or making available to other persons. I think it's amusing/ironic that the knife we refer to as a "Texas Bowie" (longer than 6") is actually illegal in Texas.
We British are reknown for our whining and complaining, you have to take most of it with a pinch of salt and don't believe most of what you've read in the papers, there's no real restrictions on "making stories up" (kind of like Fox news) and those made up stories have a tendency to become urban legend. Theresa May and the "Cat flap" is a prime example.
My only real complaint (knife related) isn't to do with the law, (I can take my hunting knife hunting and my fishing knife fishing and carry my locking work knife while I'm working. What I can't do is carry them around town at 11pm) it's what others do with their interpretation of it. Ebay UK took it into their heads to ban the selling of knives on their site (even though it's not illegal), so we have to scratch around to find other outlets to sell what we make.
This has the effect of depressing the price of custom/handmade knives while keeping the cost of imported production knives high. We can import privately, but this means that most locking folders (and the occasional slipjoint) will be confiscated by Mt. Pleasant Customs as "gravity knives" because of some bizarre interpretation by UKBA (if they can flick it open, it's a gravity knife) and the fact that to get your illegally confiscated knife back will cost a fortune in legal fees and no guarantee that you would win in court. If you lose you pay their costs as well.
Still, for the discerning custom/handmade knife collector, it means you guys can pick up a bargain, if you do find us.
Sorry about the (long winded) whinge, it must be my Britishness coming to the fore.

A yeah, like parbajtor points out, I'd much rather go to the UK than to New York!

Thanks, and I like it a lot. This is sort of a grail knife for me, I started looking for an English made bushcraft knife I could afford about four years ago.
