'an axe to grind' give away

I can’t post pictures, alas.

My favorite is an old full sized Plum single bit. Though it was new when I bought it.

When I was a teenager we lived in an old farmhouse. It came with a wood furnace in the basement and a forty acre woodlot. One of my chores was to cut trees, turn them into logs, drag the logs home (the horse did the hard work), buck them and stack them.

We owned a chain saw, which saw occasional use. But listing to a chain saw wrecks a nice day in the woods. I mostly used the axe. It wasn’t just quieter, it was safer. Good exercise, too. And I was building useful skills.

I sometimes use the chain saw bucking the logs. More often I used one of those five foot, one or two man saws. The kind with an optional vertical handle on the far end. I already knew how to use a handsaw. It was still good exercise.

I still have that axe. It’s been years since I needed to cut firewood. But that old Plum is still up to the job.

Heres my fav, but its lacking a handle
you should see the difficulty in getting a handle for one of these here in ontario

If I can find some straight grained hardwood I am going to try making an octagonal handle for a double bit someday, gotta cruise ebay for just the right head though.
Sorry to get off topic!

Here's a Gransfors 5-pounder that I'm fixing up. Not yet attached to the 36" handle. Not very common, has potential for lots of heavy-hitting fun. For size comparison, it's shown next to a 2 lb 10 oz Hults Bruks on a 28" handle.

I'm disqualified for the giveaway since I already have the book, but I wanted to participate in the show-and-tell. :)

Legitumus Cruiser given to me by a family friend in her seventies. It belonged to her father who was a logger in the PNW. This is one of my favorite axes because of the personal connection I have to it's history. It also fell into my lap right after a series of failed attempts to win cruiser axes on the bay.

Hi everyone,

I've been learning and lurking around here for a while now and this seems like as good an opportunity as any to finally post. Thanks for the contest, Bearhunter, and for the consideration of the misses. Here's what I've got followed by my favorite. I'm naming it that as it is my most recently hafted and therefor the most exciting. It's a Bluegrass from the world wide web and is my first jersey.
