Did you think you were going to see an proto-SAK? Sorry, I don't have one of those. But look at this knife, a recreation of a khukuri from a couple of centuries ago. In addition to the big chopper and its attendant utility knife and honing steel, this package also has an ear scoop, tweezers, awl, and chisel. The scabbard has a pouch to hold dry tinder.

I know this knife is a departure from what we normally look at, but I thought that maybe some of you would welcome the diversion.

Very nice Christian  Ear-scoops seem to have been an early feature on pocket-knives. I wish I had the picture of me holding my kuk when I was a wee lad! :D I'm afraid that the only one I own now, which I found under the bed the other day, is an early 90's Cold Steel LTC

Edit - I don't have a recent pic, but here's an old one

Thanks guys.

Nice, thanks for posting.
I've never had a kuk, nor have I handled one.

This khukuri is fairly small. It's only 15" overall. I like them in the 17" range. I think that's long enough to take advantage of the design. A larger man would likely prefer a larger knife.

That's very cool Jack.

I find the idea of an ear scoop terrifying. I'm already wary using cotton swabs!

If you ever find it I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see a picture of a young Jack Black holding a khukuri. Until then, I hope this will bring a smile to your face.

I always wanted a CS khukri growing up. I eventually got a Busse khukri, and a few others (like Two HI khukries, and a few others).

Thanks guys.

Your daughter looks to be well equipped to handle any blind date that may be in her future Christian.:)

Thanks Christian, me too! The only thing I use cotton buds for is cleaning my knives! :D Here's a couple of very simple Czech pocket tools, both with ear spoons, from the 1920's that Duncan @Campbellclanman gifted me some years ago :) I have noticed in the Royal Armouries museum that ear spoons are a common addition to many historic knives and weapons

Awww, nice to see your little girl :) That's a fantastic photo :) I would have been about the same age I think, but she's got me beat on looks by a long way :D :) I would love to find that pic, my mother used to have it, but I don't know where it is now :( I'd like my khukuri back too!

Really? I was sent it to review. Those sound nice though T :) My khukuri was my first knife, a gift from my uncle, who brought it back from his travels as a Royal Navy sailor. Sadly, after he died, one of my aunties stole it. I was just a kid at the time, and there was nothing I could do about it :(

That is a bummer!

Sounds like Auntie is off the Christmas card list!!

Thanks Jack.

That story burns me up every time I think of it.

I'm sure you are Christian :) Does she have her own knives yet?

Do you mean apart from all of mine that she's going to eventually end up with?

The khukuri she is holding above is hers. She wanted the knife in the OP, but that's going to my niece. My brother gave it to me as a graduation present years ago, and I think that knife should complete its journey by ending up in the hands of his daughter.

These are the knives my girl has already taken possession of. She still lets me carry the nacre covered one on Sundays.

Wow, fantastic Christian! She has great taste too :) Is that a Girl Scout knife?

It is Jack. The knife was a gift from the generous @John A. Larsen. John sent this knife my way when he found out I wanted a genuine Girl Scout knife for my daughter, not the imported dross that is peddled nowadays. My daughter is the envy of her troop whenever the knife makes an appearance.

Absolutely fantastic Christian, does she know about the early history of the movement, and the American Girl Guides I wonder?
