An early multi-tool

Absolutely fantastic Christian, does she know about the early history of the movement, and the American Girl Guides I wonder?

They do discuss the history of the Scouts at meetings, I don't know if they've learned the early history yet. If they have I'm sure my daughter has already forgotten. :(

I like that traditional multitool! I also like the Girl Scout Knife. My daughter has several knives of her own, but her very favorite is her Girl Scout Knife.

Did you think you were going to see an proto-SAK? Sorry, I don't have one of those. But look at this knife, a recreation of a khukuri from a couple of centuries ago. In addition to the big chopper and its attendant utility knife and honing steel, this package also has an ear scoop, tweezers, awl, and chisel. The scabbard has a pouch to hold dry tinder.

I know this knife is a departure from what we normally look at, but I thought that maybe some of you would welcome the diversion.
My grandfather was a colonel in the British Royal Horse Artillery in India. I believe he fought in Burma at some point during WW2, or at least was part of that campaign (he died when I was an infant, so I never got the chance to quiz him about it). Anyway, my mother said he had a Gurkha knife and that there was much mystery about how he acquired it. I suspect he probably just bought it, the way I bought this (admittedly souvenir-quality) Afar Gile:

Any pics of your grandpa's knife. Those are always a crowd pleaser.

My knowledge of Khukuri knives is very limited and I do not own one, but I think the original post example shown is very interesting. While I have seen those models with a secondary smaller blade housed in the sheath, I hadn't seen one with several smaller knives / tools in tow. Nice examples also shown from Jack and Just Tom.
Wonderful to see your daughter holding one and owning other knives as well!!! My kids were also brought up with knives from a young age as I was.

Although I don't have a Khukuri, I do have another sheath knife from India that my father brought back from overseas while in the army during the Korean war. It was certainly meant as a tourist item, but very neat nonetheless and of course important to me as an heirloom which I remember fondly from my youth.
