I am always aware of keeping my cost down to offer a value priced knife but here I am presenting a tool that I am proud to post at this bargain price. I used some 1095 steel which is my humble opinion is an excellent knife steel and even though I get in trouble when a say this, I believe that is just slices better than a lot of other steels. The heat treating was done in my shop to Rc 58-60 with a fine grain structure throughout the blade. The grind is flat and left finished with a 120 grit belt and the flats were left with the mill scale which saves belt costs and my time. Most often I will strive for an almost mirror finish which requires two more belts and some hand sanding. Yes, 1095 will stain, especially when cutting acidic foods (I like to call this a patina) and will rust with neglect. The scales are white oak which I stabilized in my own shop using the same chemicals and vacuum process as any commercial operation, this is a big savings over purchased materials. So if someone is looking for a hard working knife at a nice price this one will work for you.
