I was privileged to be able to display a truly world-class collection
of 60 amazing knives made by RON LAKE over the years.

I doubt that anyone anywhere will ever have the chance to view
such an exhibition in real life. I have them on permanent show, page after
page after page....

Here is one page I fell in love with.... :)
It displays three LAKE / LOERCHNER collaborations, with gold inlays
by Ron Skaggs on the bottom knife.

All the best,

Yes, you are right. Actually, the whole display is of
Ron Lake knives from his collection..... :)

Thanks for the view David.

Is that collection going to be included in the next book?

Peter

in the book on an 18 page section...

To answer several emails I received and to save others from
emailing me on this subject, the Ron Lake collection that will be
displayed in my next book IS NOT FOR SALE......
:)

All the best... :)

you've seen one lake, you've seen a million.

For years my thoughts were quite like yours. But handling quite
a few Lakes, examining them closely and then setting up this
collection changed my mind completely about his knives.

I think you should see this section. You will probably
change your mind too... Especially so if you get to handle
a few of his knives.

For over half a century Ron Lake has been religiously creating a multitude
of variations from a small number of original models. This is a fact.
Over the years there were no newly created designs and he very rarely used
fancy materials. The Orion and Sierra Interframes are his classic models inlaying
their handles with stag, big horn, water buffalo horn, tortoise shell, and
Mother-of-Pearl. This too is a fact.
All this probably sounds not very exciting but when looking deeper, one can find
infinite differences in what seems at first to be similar.
Ron Lake’s strength lies in the loyalty to his design concept that is unique to his
own knife art. His amazing fit and finish make him a living legend and one of the
most accomplished makers of modern custom folding knives in the world.
This too is considered by many to be a fact.... :)

A knifemaker needs a great deal of skill to go on making only a small
number of models for five decades and yet remain at the top of this
rapidly developing art form.
And that is a pretty accurate description of Ron Lake....

All the best,

I disagree totally with the idea that if you have seen one Lake knife, you have seen them all. Though he tends to make only a few patterns, the work he does to them, and the materials he uses, makes each a unique piece. I love his knives.

Here are three gold handle Lakes from the same collection.
All are marked Au on the blade.

All the best,

Wow... Just WOW!

I have owned two Lakes in my life and circumstances didn't allow for me to keep them as cornerstones of my collection (to my great disappointment).

Hopefully some day I can come across anything like those pictured above.

Thought I'd bring up this Thread as there were some recent
(even if polite) remarks about Ron Lake's folder designs.

It is quite evident to all that Ron Lake has presented an enormous
offering to the world of custom knives. He has been doing so for
over half a century by religiously creating a multitude of variations
from a small number of original models.
Over the years there were no newly created designs and he very
rarely used fancy materials. Ron Lake’s strength lies in the loyalty
to his design concept that is unique to his own knife art.

the world.

Here are a few more examples of his super clean designs and
perfectly executed folders as displayed in Matteo Uliassi's
collection in my book.
