An experiment, can I limit myself two modern folders?

Update: It has been 4.5 months and I still have the same two knives. At this point, I have determined that I just don't carry the sebenza enough. Every time I try, it lasts one day and the XM goes back into my pocket. Maybe I will have a change of heart with regards to my signature but so far, you see my intentions.

You are doing better than me. I received my ZT 801 the day I found out my wife was pregnant and I was going to carry it exclusively. Well that lasted about 2 months. Then I have bought a CQC 7, mini commander, PM2, ZT 0770 damn its a sickness. But I still carry it sometimes and it goes to all OB appointments so I am still doing ok lol.

Congrats on your future? child Nic S. I agree, one can get carried away. I had already went through a ZT/Spyderco phase when I realized what my true tastes were.

Less is more. I have only two modern folders. And they're not even fancy or expensive. One is a half serrated, tanto (yes tanto!) Kershaw blackout with a peened lock bar and the other is a beat to heck cold steel hold out. I only keep them because they're not worth selling any they aren't nice enough to give as gifts.

I do often consider picking up a new modern folder in m4 or super blue some times though.

I'm going to attempt the same commitment.

The experiment has changed slightly. I once wondered if I could hold myself to just 2 modern folders. An xm18 slicer and a sebenza 25. Well the sebenza is gone. Now my experiment is to see if I just have 2 Hinderers;)

I had a ton of folders, but have limited it to my benchmade 51, and my gayle bradley.

But, as for fixed blades.... I usually carry a different one every day.

These are my 2 main carries right now... thinned my collection down to about 10 right now and will eventually get it down to 5.

For me, owning and using only 1 or 2 knives for the rest of my life would be like eating only 1 or 2 foods for the rest of my life. No matter how good they were, I would quickly get sick of them.

"Has anyone else pared down their collection to a few that you keep and carry? How did you decide which knives you were going to keep? How long did it last?"

Yep. I kept the ones I found myself using and sold off the rest (I have been through a LOT of knives on a trial basis). About 12 years and still going....

I can't just carry 2. My OCD kicks in and I start to get a little skiddish.

My duo that I _always_ carry. The others I rotate.

I agree with the previous statement "as soon as you find your grail that is all you need to carry". When I get my hands on on a ZT 0777 (CF or BLK390) and a ZT 0562CF those will be the only two I _need_ to carry but will still have another one or two on me because I love knives.

Update! Well I failed and succeeded at my experiment at the same time. I still hove two modern folders, and they are both Hinderers:) I am really liking this 3" XM!

Looks good buddy. I feel the same way as you but I have a few more modern knives. Most don't get carried but either have sentimental value (gift or my fathers) and the other 4 get carried. Order right now on frequency are;

XM-18 3" slicer
Small 21 w/ Madagascar Rosewood inlay
XM-18 3.5 slicer
& Sebenza 25

The 3" XM-18 is really a perfect knife for me. Always liked larger blades but then started carrying the small 21 outside the office and really liked it so thought I'd jump on a 3" XM. Glad I did.

Really like the SR2 as well but don't see myself carrying it as much as the 3" XM. So it's on the chopping block.
