An HI Khuk Owner At Last!

That was the first thing that occurred to me, but I figured that I had to be wrong. I was afraid to even mention it, for fear of sounding disrespectful; thanks for the reassurance.

Other signs include a ton of Devanagari symbols I can't (yet) read, the "sun symbol that I also find on my khuk (a circle surrounded by four pairs of lines), and a "rising sun" symbol (Sher?). Does that ring a bell with anyone, or do I just need to wait for my camera to finish charging, and post the pics?

I believe the circle with rays coming out at the four points is the HI symbol.
The Devanagari used to stand for Bir Gorka, but don't know if that's changed.

I forgot which kami is the rising sun.

I keep thinking it's Sher: the site mentions him using a "half sun" in recent years. However, the info on the kamis needs updating as badly as the knife info does (see the "Missing Pages" thread).

Congrats on your first H.I. khukuri!
The mark on your R-6 does indeed look to be Sher Kami's mark. To me it looks like the mark in the 2nd pic here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5370842&postcount=23
This post is where Auntie explains the marks and gives a list:

Great pictures, thank you for sharing

UPDATE: The only Nepali person I know has given "Rufus" a thumbs up!

In a previous thread, you may have heard me mention Kala, the woman who runs Kala's Kuisine, a food stand at the Farmers' Market where I shop. Before I ordered, I'd asked her about her experience with khukuris (especially whether or not they could be used in the kitchen). She was quite surprised to hear of my interest, and even offered to help find me one.

She was a little disappointed to hear that I was ordering online, since she didn't think there was anyone who sold a decent one that way. Nevertheless, the last couple of times I saw her, she asked, "Did you order your khukuri yet?" Then, for several weeks, she was out of town.

Well, two days ago, at the Wednesday Market.....she was back! Fresh off of having won a bunch of awards at the Austin Hot Sauce Festival, she was delighted to hear that I'd finally gotten it. In fact, she asked if I ahd it with me! The answer, alas, was "no," but I went home and got it anyway (discovering, in the process, that a 15" BAS would have been a lot easier to fit into a shoulder bag!) Finally, I got to show her my new toy, and she said, after only a quick inspection, "You got a really nice one." She was even able to tell, at a glance, that it was a more martial design, although I forget the word that she used.

Sadly, since it had come wrapped in Reno newspaper, I was not able to offer Kala "news from back home." But it was nice to pass the "authenticity test!"
