Mike, there were a few of the smaller 20-21" and approx. 21 oz. "Dagga" swords that came out first, and then these longer 27-28" 27 oz. "Espada" versions. At least I think that's the right terminology for the 2 sizes. They all do a good job of matching about 1 oz. per inch. I'm going with Steve's knowledge as to the correct name to call it now, Pinuti vs. Espada. Yangdu has simply referred to them as HI or Himalayan Swords in most of her deals of the day. Bura made some with a brass inlay in the wood as well, and I originally got one of those in the smaller size, and a couple of months ago got a matching mate in the larger size.
The first ones made were in May 2006 I believe, and had horn scabbard panels and horn handles. Then came some like Steve's here, and then off and on later some with brass wire inlays on the handle and scabbard. I think the whole run was on and off for just a few months last year. I have to say I love the "plain" finished look of this model, as without the inlays you can really appreciate the great wood grain. Both mine have a gap in the inlays for the frog, but I am missing the frog on one so it looks a bit odd.
I may be mistaken but I think it was Tedwca who kind of drove this and originally asked for it to be made. (?) (Just checked, and he says it was made in response to a request from one of our UK members. Kronckew?)
For some reason these seem to have a tendency to rust at the tip, and mine needed a bit of minor polishing. I noticed that Yangdu mentioned rust on a few of them as well. I have found the metal and scabbard work to be great, but the handles could benefit from a little sanding and refinishing, at least on my pair.
