An Incredible Tanto From David Mirabile

The Japanese style of blades have always been so fascinating to me, prior to getting into them it was the eppe and rapiers of France and elsewhere. One look at a tanto or katana I never looked back. To the person that handmade that beautiful blade, hats off to you!

I especially enjoy the color contrast between the habaki and seppa or blade collar and spacer. The level of craftsmanship on the ito, mekugi / menuki same and tsuka is absolutely stunning! Attention to detail and sheer look of how you brought everything together, well you just nailed it. That is take your breath away beautiful and the person in the UK that got it, good for them.

Thanks for posting it!

I never get tired of seeing David's work. That little knife is really nice, glad we got to see it.

I'm bringing the Aikuwie that I picked up at the Seattle show with me to have Coop shoot it, Joseph...you can post that up when we have the shot in hand.

Fantastic piece, not a huge fan of the steel choice.

Any idea what the kurigata and kojiri are made out of? They're stunning.

Just saw this, and love it.:thumbup:

I've been hesitant to post in this thread because I didn't think I could add anything that hasn't already been said. I'll just say that I was fortunate enough to attend the Seattle show and was pretty much overwhelmed by the skills and artistry I saw represented at every table. Meeting David, seeing his work, and being able to talk to him about it was very enjoyable. Mike

I got this teaser from David yesterday......a 'matching' Tanto to go with a certain Wakishasi he made last year. ;)

It's still got a lot of finishing and detail work left but this gives a nice idea of what's in store.
