When I thought about making this year’s tribute to our Independence, I must admit, I hesitated at what I wanted to make. I had just watched all the History Channel specials commemorating the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States, also known as the Northern Aggression. No worries; I actually married a lady born up North. She’s American by Birth and Southern by Choice.
I have had the privilege and plain good fortune to be born in South Carolina, the first State with enough intestinal fortitude to secede; the first State to attempt to limit Federal interference in the Rights of Citizens of a State.
I cannot say that I don’t appreciate and understand the People of this Great Land that proudly call themselves hyphenated-Americans and celebrate by exercising their Constitutional Rights as much as they are allowed to, at least.
I, too, am a hyphenated breed; a Confederate Southern-American and proud of it.
With this in mind, I display with Great Pride, this work of Pure Southern Art. God Bless the United States of America.

Thanks all. Actually, AWC, it's not illegal to own if I UNsharpen an edge....i've done it before....looks the same and just as lethal, yet legal. odd laws....

How i like Eddie White knives ! But i'll pass on this one; wouldn't be right for a Canadian to steal a Southern Belle like this sweet stabber.
I think it is legal in Canada but you can't take it into a Court room or bar.

I'll pass, born in NYS, and I'll probably die in NYS so I'll pass due in no uncertain part to not supporting any secessionist ideology of any kind, even in a knife. Happy Independence Day.

Nice work, Eddie. Do you have a photo with the sheath? I didn't see one in the picassa folder...

yes indeed Mr. Clean. If we do not learn our history, we are surely doomed to repeat it.

Perhaps you would like being owned in contrast to "attempt to limit Federal interference in the Rights of Citizens of a State". Slavery was why the South seceded, check your Articles of Secession, it's in the second sentence and dominates the document as well as the writings of Jefferson Davis in 1860-61. Your "Rights" to own property in the form of another human being are simply not "right."

Today we celebrate our Independence, including independence from ideology that would permit human slavery.

True, the main point that set off the Civil War was over slavery, but not all. There was a lot of hatred in the South over the way the industrialized North was cheating the farmers in the South. Kinda like the way factory workers were treated in the North during the Industrial Revolution until the creation of unions or how everyone makes such a fuss over Fair Trade goods from Central and South America. My family fought for the Confederacy and never owned one slave. They were Irish fishermen. Of course my great, great, uncle was Admiral David Farragut, so there is that too. He brought he fleet here and attacked he own home and family. People fought for the Confederacy for more than slavery. Think about it in these terms....would you fight and die for a Fortune 500 company? I doubt it. Same for plantation owners, but when you threaten my home along with burn and pillage my property, I'll be damn if I won't kick your ass. Now this isn't the forum for this, so back to the knife at hand. It is a very beautiful push dagger. Love the damascus pattern.

Mr. Martin, picture of the sheath on its way into the Picassa folder.....
As for the rest, I'm really glad I did set off a little controversy today. These are the freedoms that we each have a right to and that's what makes it great to be an American. I agree with the sentiments of the Mississippi Rifleman. My family also fought in the Civil War, yet never owned a slave, and I sure as hell wouldn't fight and die for a Fortune 500 company! Truth be known, my ancestors came to this country as indentured servants, just one step up from being a slave. Glad to exercise my first Amendment freedom and thank you all for taking a look-see. Happy Independence Day!

Odd Eddy, but the earliest reference to my father's family in genealogical records is a petition by an indentured servant to marry. I believe it was in Virginia but may have been North Carolina.
I like the knife and Damned to Political Correctness.

There is a lot of interesting History regarding the Civil War. While Slavery was indeed a major factor it was far from the only factor.

I have a question about the knife. How is the inlay affixed to the scale?

It's a push knife therefore absolutely illegal in Canada, no if's and or buts.
