An observation..RE: speed checks,pass downs...(long)

There you have it gents. It isn't the speed tests, the pass downs or the proxies preventing people from having success. It is their own impatients. Couple that log jam that starts before three with all the images in Nathan's ad, and it cannot load on time. Because it doesn't load on time, people get even more impatient, so they keep refreshing, adding yet again to the problem. Then their post, once they finally get to make it, won't load fast enough for them, so they submit again, which only backs them up further in the Q and causes error.

That said, if people still want to think it's the ten speed tests, pass downs and the proxies done by people that obviously know how to regularly succeed, rather than the literal hundreds of needless refreshes and re submits that occur before and just after 3, well, I guess ignorance can be bliss.

C'mon man, why did you have to explain it? Now we'll never get to come in first place, like we did in the last 2 sales...

I think the problem is be incureable brother, and will continue. Some guys wouldn't be able to find their ass in the dark with all ten fingers and a flashlight. I suspect we'll get all we want and need, we'll just have a little less fun doing it.

Y'all are going to be sad when these sales slowdown in a few months and this drama will have been all for naught. Folks just need to relax, it will slow down and people will get what they want. We have always had these little jumps and starts, although this one has been pretty significant, but things always slow down and people always get what they want eventually. It's not a big deal, just give it a little time.

I was on a Mac this last sale. The sale thread took maybe 10-13 seconds to load. I went to the reply box as fast as possible, typed in a number 1 and hit reply. I didn’t touch anything else. Nothing happened. At about 35 seconds after the hour, the server error message popped up. At that point it was likely over for me. Then, I tried closing the error box and replying again. Error message again. I tried refreshing and got the error message again. I think I got five total before it finally posted at about 60+ down. If I was doing something wrong, I don’t know what it was. I’m never too proud to be educated on something I lack expertise in. This time I’m going to try it from the road on an iPad.

I was serious when I previously posted that I was quite content to sit in the corner for now with my FK1(bought on the secondary, like all my CPK’s). Jo just put micarta scales on it for me and a couple days later I received a nice quality leather sheath from PirtleMade for it. The FK1 certainly isn’t lacking for anything. CPK has repeatedly said (see above) this knife will be produced in sufficient numbers and that’s pretty cool. I’m glad for that as it removes any anxiety as well as the need to buy one on the secondary market. And that’s really cool.

Sorry Bob, I hope you can forgive me. My panties were so bunched I had to take them off, enjoy that image.....

In the beginning....

Five or so knives for sale - This sucks, Nathan, you need to offer more knives.

Nathan - I'll do sales of ten.
Everyone - This is great, long over due, it will fix everything.

Moving on...

Ten or so knives for sale - This sucks, Nathan, you need to offer more knives.

Nathan - I'll do sales of twenty.
Everyone - This is great, long over due, it will fix everything.

Not too far down the road or long ago.......

Twenty or so knives for sale - This sucks, Nathan, you need to offer more knives.

Nathan - I'll do sales of forty.
Everyone - This is great, long over due, it will fix everything.

Present day.....

Forty or so knives for sale - This sucks, Nathan, I didn't get one of forty knives because ten guys proxied or passed.

Nathan - I don't know what to tell you, let's try this....
Everyone - This is great, long over due, it will fix everything

Next week .....

Who knows, but I would bet the streak if I was in Vegas.

I fully support the lack of headache for Jo by keeping the thread a bit leaner. For that alone, I won't post in a sale I am not buying in anymore for certain. That said, the notion that the act of proxy by a few guys and the act of not taking knives by a few others has prevented others from getting knives is rediculous. The belief that a few people not doing those things is going to up the odds dramatically is even more rediculous. Again, a few guys NOT taking a knife, is some how having a statistically significant impact in preventing others from getting one of FORTY knives. Bullshit.

I doubt this was brought on by Jo brow beating Nathan tirelessly over the part that affects her. I suspect it came about because of the relentless browbeating Nathan takes from guys whining they can't get a knife, even when forty are offered. Nathan, to his credit, and maybe his fault, try's all he can to make most everyone happy.

If you suck at scoring a knife, get better at it, I had to. If you don't know how to do that, then enjoy the mediocrity.

You didn't do anything wrong, it's gonna happen. I have failed to make the top forty, last week I was first. Technique is great, but like Cata said, you need luck on the refresh as well.

Feel better? :D

I probably should just close this and let it be ... but posts like these are why many new comers are getting frustrated or turned off ...

you complain about newbies whinning but that's what I see from a few regulars ... whinning that they know better than anyone why and how and all the talk of "ok then I just won't proxy or help anymore" ... and putting down anyone that isn't in agreement with them ...

it is just fact the knives are highly desired and there will be lag and errors from the server being overwhelmed ... and yes it will still happen and lag and errors will happen ... but if you don't think the extra people doing "speed tests" contribute to this then I don't know how you can post to contridict it then say it has no bearing ...

the lag will happen ... the errors will happen ... but for every spot claimed by a test did contribute to people actually wanting to buy knives from getting them ...

now the regulars or everyone can be mad at me or bash me or whatever ... but it bothers me more seeing regulars whine and ultimately discourage new buyers by basically calling them idiots ...

so I'm guessing this will not go over well but I've seen it since the first mention and its not new people continuing to whine ...

I thought much better from this group to be honest ...

makes me shake my head.

Drama!

calm down.

This is a low drama zone. Folks looking for recreational outrage should look elsewhere.

Yep, that's the thing, as CPK gains popularity, there are more and more folks trying their hand at these. It's obvious that the BF server simply can't handle the load.

Even if you don't do anything wrong, if the BF server is too backed up by all the commands in the queue, you can get a 'connection timed out' error if it takes too long for the BF server to respond.

The thing is, as CPK continues to grow, perception of the brand is also a consideration, especially for CPK's continued growth.

Newcomers getting frustrated with the difficulty of placing high enough in the sales is one thing, but as someone else posted when they start getting the impression that there is a group of veteran CPK'ers with faster connections/better skills, snagging spots to pass to their buddies/in-crowd, it can hurt CPK's image, not of their product, but of the ability to obtain one of their offerings.

I'm stressing again, that I'm talking about how things are perceived by newcomers looking to snag their first CPK. They haven't been on this subforum long enough to recognize that by and large, CPK'ers are a great bunch.

Personally, I'd like to see CPK continue to grow and succeed beyond their wildest dreams. Anything that helps that along is a good thing, and anything that makes it easier for Jo to sift through the wreckage is a great thing!:D I may be a dog person, but no one wants dead kittens :p
