..... about a "new" knife company - Spyderco!

The "old dog": Me. 61 y/o and always carried traditional slip joints and SAK's. Spyderco's were for the young guys, and besides they looked funny. ;)

The knife: Spyderco G-10 Dragonfly. My first Spyderco. I just received this knife today and I'm impressed! Fit & finish is excellent, arm hair shaving sharp out of the box, and I really like the green/gray G-10 handles and full flat ground VG-10 blade. I've already taken the clip off as it interfered with opening the knife one-handed - I plan to carry it in the watch pocket of my jeans anyway. And ya know what? Now that I have one, it doesn't look so funny, and it feels great in the hand!

Of course I still love my traditional slippies & SAK's and will continue to carry them, but I feel that my horizons have been broadened. I can certainly understand, now, why Spyderco has such a loyal following - they've earned it!

The G10 Dragonfly is a great knife. I've been EDCing mine this week.

It took me years to finally get a Spyderco. I used to think they looked funny. The Sage I was the first one that I though didn't look too funny and I liked the way the lines on it flowed, so it was the first Spyderco I bought. I have also added a Tenacious and a couple of Bugs to my collection.

I took rounded some the sharp edges on the spine and jimping on the Dragonfly and Sage. It just feels better to me.

Congrats on your first spydie! The G-10 Dragonfly is one of my favorite knives to EDC, especially anywhere that a larger knife would be frowned upon.

If you like slip joints, I strongly recommend you check out the Urban (about the size of the Dragonfly) or UK Penknife (a little bigger, has 3" blade). edit:also the grasshopper is an awesome slipjoint, more traditional penknife size and shape and only about $12-18

Enjoy your new tool, and as someone else said, welcome to our world :p

Congrats, after a few weeks you'll wish all of your knives had holes. :o

Hey.... I'm not THAT young (47), but how did you know I look funny??? ;)

Congrats. Nice Dragonfly. (I have that one, too.) And, prepare to buy more! I bought my first Spyderco last May. I now have 26 of them. By next week, I'll have another two. And, I've already spotted several MUST haves in the 2011 catalog.

Hi Keith,
Welcome to SpydercoLand.
I was 49 (may be fanny looking :), but certainly not a young boy for sure) I discovered Spyderco five years ago. My knife of choice was SAK and the first knife I gave to my son was Schrade (used to be USA made). But when you start to use Spydie, there is no way back. These knives are fantastic cutters. I tried few other major brands, but couldn't find anything, which would replace my Persians or Calys. If you still love slippies, you can check out UKPK and Bob T slipit. Great knives.
Good luck.

Hey, thanks for the welcome guys! I spent a couple hours last night getting acquainted with my new Dragonfly - just sittin' in front of the tv opening & closing the knife and rotating it into position for use. Made some nice confetti out of old magazines, too! The cool little "thunk" on lock-up sure inspires confidence - love that sound! And thanks for the suggestions of other Spyderco's to check out!

Stay, stay far away from Spyderco. Please give that Dragonfly away and go back to your traditional blades as there may be no turning back!

I've been looking at the same knife you just got.... damn.

I was perfectly happy with my caly 3 until you did that, thanks a lot! Another Spyderco to check out.... :D

Welcome to club! But beware, though, the DragonFly was my first Spydie too (back in 1995/96) and, before long, I had pretty much all of them made at that time. Now, my fav is the Sage series . . . and on it goes. . . .
