An old friend given new life, my Colonial barlow returns

Doug, I must say to you that I really love what was done to this knife:thumbup: it is truly a beauty, and I had the same feelings as glennbad about modding a shell handled knife, my feelings now are different, and seeing this knife finished, you chose wisely:thumbup:
Congratulations to you, and the knife smith for resurrecting your first knife into a tool which will serve you well for many years to come...Well Done my Tarheel neighbor ;)
Thank You for sharing!

Thank you neighbor, I am very pleased with the result. And, be assured of my prayers for you as you travel south for what must surely be a difficult task.

Hey Doug, Im glad I had the time tonight to look at this knife for a wee while...mate..that is such an improvement, it really has been a very successful re-scale/ re-shape, thank you for taking the time to show us your very cool knife.

I took a few more photos of the Colonial this evening in an attempt to get better shots of the marigold bone and the old carbon blades.

What a great looking restore. It is even better because it is your childhood knife!

I would never have put this kind of money in such a cheap knife if it did not: 1) have decent steel blades, and 2) have significant sentimental value.

I was gonna say (if no one else did) that those old colonials don't have bad steel at all...just those hideous plastic handles and clip-on bolsters, but your mod took care of that! GREAT looking knife, and a wonderful new lease on life for an old friend.

That looks terrific Doug, congrats on bringing a treasured knife back to life!

I've considered doing something with my Imperial Barlow, which like yours was acquired when I was single digits in age (8) and was from my Dad. One of the shell handles had come off years ago and while I managed to get it back on the bolster area is bent and has a gap between it and the inner liner. I cleaned it up as much as I could and put a decent edge on it, but it deserves more.

Oh crap! The shop I was just in has a bucket load of Colonials and Imperials.... Barlows, Grandaddy Barlows, Campers.... should I go on?.... :D

Outstanding job, love it every time I see it.

No, you should go back.

Bring me a barlow next time, 'kay?

Hey, I've got one of those... I've had it since I was a kid in Yonkers, NY. Late 60s or early 70s vintage, I'd guess.
