An older Italian Knife, with some American History!

That was a nice trip down Memory Lane :)

QUOTE - r8shell "Here's an odd, old knife:
Marx & Co. Maniago"

4 3/4" long, and unfortunately it's seen the grinder a time or two.

I couldn't find much, except that there was a German businessman named Albert Marx, who was an owner of a cutlery co-operative in Maniago, Italy from 1907 to 1914. Coricama (Coltellerie Riunite di Caslino e diManiago)

I am confirming that this old Italian knife that Rachel generously gifted to me, is indeed a Sfilato, though it appears to have been made in Maniago, and not Frosolone, where it would be traditional. There will be a surprising update coming soon as well!! Watch for it in a few days, depending on the mail!!

Nice, Tom!!
It's been a while since I had an Espresso from my stove top maker!!

Nice going, Jack!! In the coffe shop, I order a Doppio Longo, which is a 2-shot, run with a little extra water; not quite an Americano!!:D I have some Espresso ground coffee - now to find the maker!!:p

Sfilato pattern knives: First pic;
The top knife features in the Original Post (#1), made by Cosimo Mirando, in Frosolone, Italia!
The next is a gift from our fellow Porchitarian, r8shell r8shell , an older, and heavily used but still cool Sfilato, from Maniago, Italia!;)
The third knife is heavily influenced by the previous knife, and by the Sfilato pattern in general, and is from the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia!! That's right, Canada!!:D
Rhidian has outdone himself to make this beautiful knife for me!
It has the strong snap and half-stops, typical of the breed, and has a hand (not too shiny)finish on 1095, ready for use!!
You will note that Frosolone versions are straighter, While the Maniago, and B.C. versions have some "swell" in the handle.
A current traditional knifemaker in Frosolone confirms that the patterns are from the same "family"!!:)

I miss going out for coffee Charlie, and that's just the way I like it :) Grinding the beans is about the only exercise I get at the moment  ;) I've been mainly using an Aeropress lately, but I miss the crema :(

Grazie Molto to Cosimo, Rachel, and Rhidian!!
I saw this knife on instagram a few days ago, and he said he was making it for you, Charlie. I wondered when it was going to pop up over here. That’s a cool knife and an interesting bit of history.

Here's a modest but very well finished contemporary Italian in Shadow Horn, about 4"/10cm.

I also have one like it but with a small brass front bolster and bail also horn.
