I stumbled on this on the exchange and needless to say I jumped on it. I've never seen this model before and it is marked "Prototype". I'm not sure what the steel is (my guess is 12C27), if anyone has an idea or has seen one of these before I'd love to know more. It has a strange grind, a scandi/convexed scandi mix with the front half being pretty convexed. I'm not sure if I'll leave it that way or "flatten" the front part out.....I'll have to see after I play with it some. It's been used and as you can see has some marks on the blade, no biggie as I intend to use it. :)

The blade is just a hair under 3" and the overall length is right at 7", blade thickness is 1/8". I think given the size it might be a good candidate for neck carry.

Yeah, those Bark River Scandi prototypes are pretty rare…

…Good find.

IIRC, Mike picked up a couple of blades somewhere, and played around with them for the fun of it. You've got yourself a very rare Bark River knife there!

Wow. That is a super sweet little Barkie. I wonder why they never made a full run of those little puukos. Nice score!

BlackHills, I'm glad to see she's getting the attention she deserves. Mike got 12 blades in 12c27 for the prototype set and for some strange reason they were just not popular enough to get a full "run". I have big Paws and the handle fits my hand as if it were only for three fingers. I asked Mike to make me one from a blade I supplied with a handle the same shape as yours but with the length of the Aurora's handle so that it would fit my hand better. Mike said they are still on the backburner for a possible production run in the future but BRKT is having a hard time keeping up with the production orders they already have. Glad to see that your putting her to work. I knife that beautiful deserves to be used.

Thanks everyone. I'm really looking forward to taking her out into the woods.

Thanks for the info Md. I agree the handle is a bit on the short side, I have large hands and I wouldn't mind it being a bit longer. I'm tempted to take some sandpaper to the handle but I'm going to hold off until I've used it a bit. I'm really surprised there wasn't enough interest for a run.

I like it, I wish they would have had a production run of them beauts!

Congrats on the rare find.

Mike Stewart will build whatever we, the user, wants.

If we show enough interest in a Bark River Scandi style knife, I suspect he will make one.

The Bravo-1 has taken a lot of the production time lately, as I suspect the new Gunny will, but Mike likes to make new designs.

What would you like a Bark River Scandi to be like?
