Hey everyone! I havent been posting in a while. I have several new knives to post pictures of soon, but for now here is my situation.
Im in a dorm.
I dont have my 2 by 72, my 1947 Wilton bandsaw, my delta platinum bandsaw, table saw, miter saw, forge, anvil. All i have is two tubes of epoxy and a roommate who thinks if he showers it will wash off his pheromones.
But I did get a knife makers membership because i could bring one thing. A box full of wood. I still need to take more pictures "have you ever made a lightbox with a pocket knife, a roll of tape and borrowed desk lamps?" but here is some of what i have.
I have a great source for Mexican kingwood. Mexican kingwood is a rosewood, a very close relative to "classic" Brazilian kingwood "Dalbergia cearensis"
known for its rust red and purple streaks. Mexican kingwood, also called Camatillo, "Dalbergia congestiflora" is a similar wood. It has in incredibly high strength rating in all categories so it is resistant to dents and scraps, its very heavy and it takes a glass like polish. Its also notable for its more purple tinged color than classic kingwood.
The other big one is my old growth Cocobolo. This was your father coco. Its rich, deep reds with jet black streaks defining the pattern. This came out of mexico in the mid 50's, as when i bought it it was in a garage along with Brazilian rosewood, ceylon ebony, and an issue of "Woodworker magazine" from September 1954.
And im sorry about the bits of lint on the wood samples. Again, all of this is happening in a dorm
