Knife of kings (or pharaohs)...
http://www.history.com/news/researchers-say-king-tuts-dagger-was-made-from-a-meteorite

I know Swedish steel was renowned for years in their ancient (not B.C.) days, now known due to naturally occurring alloying elements found in much of their iron deposits, but as a knife-knut and metal fan, I just thought this was flat out cool...

Does anyone else know of of ancient cool metal/knife-sword stories?

Right? Could you imagine being the only guy with alloyed iron, when everyone else had bronze? (Even if it was 10%+ nickle + cobalt)...

In really good condition too all things considered!

I imagine not the best edge holding, (though better then bronze), but pretty darn stainless due to high nickle/cobalt content, and tough to boot! Folds well before it ever chips...

Definitely a cool knife story I thought.

Some cool metals come from meteorites (cough , Adamantium , cough) 😊

Well, there's the story that James Black made the original Bowie...the one with the clip point and large guard, and smithed it from a meteorite.

Of course that story is as real as adamantium.

Wootz steel--the original Damascus was/is renowned for its superior toughness and edge retention. There is a Russian gentleman who forges wootz blades today. I don't recall his name, but he supposedly uses a recipe very close to the original wootz. The technique is centuries old and the steel rivals some of the modern super steels in performance.

edit---> the knifemaker's name is Igor Pampuha in case anyone was wondering
