Anciet Weapons of the Caucasian Race

Just off the top of my head I would think that a culture would do better with projectile weapons that it could use for hunting but that could serve double-duty in war and personal defense, as long as we recognize that actual wars were infrequent... and the more infrequent the better. I've never heard this theory about interbreeding Erectus and Neanderthal. Rather, both evolved from Erectus as the size of core units increased from extended families to tribes and the settled village or town (and eventually city) only comes in with homo sapiens. Larger social units create much more complex challenges to the maintenance of order.

I am not an anthropologist, but an historian with a university appointment. As I understand it, the concept of race is now discredited, since it was a racist system devised in the imperial age to differentiate humanity in a way to justify imperial expansion. In retrospect, the notion of dividing humanity on the basis of skin color makes as much sense as setting up a classification system derived from hair or eye color.

In my discipline, race is still powerful, given how many historical actors based their conduct on this idea.

You, sir, understand it correctly. There is simply not enough deviation in human DNA to justify differentiation among us based on the notion of "race". If anything, "race" is the most unfortunate and damaging fiction man has ever perpetrated on himself.

Hey, if somebody wants to shut it down, that's fine with me. Too much of the truth makes me break out in a rash . . . ;)

I just did a little search and found research backing up the interbreeding theory. It is foolish to ignore data just because it makes you uncomfortable.

What data? How old? Where was it published?

It's hard to judge the research you found without more information.

And it still does little to make that information at all relevant to a discussion of swords.

can someone tell me how this overwhelmingly offensive, and totally irrelevant thread has not been closed yet? There's less than 20% of this thread dedicated to anything blade related, and it's overtly offensive

Stop being so offended. This is a dry theory that modern racial characteristics developed from interbreeding between Neanderthal and Homo Erectus. I really don't get the outraged puffery. Do you really want other people not to read this, just because you don't agree with it. I would love to see some more early European weapons..... I'm the one posting photos.

It's kind of weird, but I don't see how to post an image right now.

Anyway, check out this article:

http://www.newscientist.com/article...genome-reveals-interbreeding-with-humans.html

It contains this quote:

"Any human whos ancestral group developed outside Africa has Neanderthal DNA. Neanderthals didn't live in Africa which is why sub-Saharan African populations have no trace of Neanderthal DNA."

Iraq.
Iran (Aryan) is the homeland of the Medes and the Persians.

Aram or Aramea is Syria.
Aram Naharaim is Syria of the Two Rivers AKA Iraq AKA Mesopotamia.

Syriac: ܒܝܬ ܢܗܪܝܢ (Beth Nahrin): "land of rivers") is a name for the area of the Tigris–Euphrates river system, corresponding to modern-day Iraq, the northeastern section of Syria and to a lesser extent southeastern Turkey and smaller parts of southwestern Iran.

Your wrong mate .... humans left africa and came into contact with Neanderthals and similiar.....neanderthals being descendants of a previous wave of sapiens.
Asians melanesians and Australian Aboriginals all have equall amounts of Neanderthals dna about 5% at least thats what I recall.

This forum is about discussion of swords. Not much of that has happened in this thread.
