Here it is -- 27 & 1/4 inches and about 3.25 pounds. Made by Sanu and he has been pretty faithful to Anton's model.

Anton wanted a fancy scabbard for his Falcata and he got it. Very good carving and workmanship.

A few pix to follow.

I want one of those too!!! How much would something like that set me back Uncle?

UNCLE! That looks like a finger print on the blade..... that would be a blem and I'm sure that would make it a UBDOTD for $29.95 , RIGHT????
AWWWWW, well it was worth a try. Incredable piece of art. Really a prize.See Ya!:D :D :D

We'll wait for Anton to review this HI Falcata and if he gives us the go ahead we'll have a sign up thread.

When you have an excellent model you get an excellent rendition!!!!

And just when I think I've reached my limit something else comes along that I just have to have.:D

Not being very familiar with the more exotic blades of the world, is a Falcata an existing style of sword or is this Anton's brain child?
Either way it is an awsome piece of work.

Wow!

She looks great! :) Looks like Sanu has done an excellent job. My only concern is, that with more than 3 pounds, the Falcata is heavier than I thought it should be. Let's wait and see how this affects its use as a short sword. If the balance is ok, the additional weight might not be a big problem. The Falcata available from Del Tin (its specifications are supposedly based on a surviving original) is 2 lbs, 14 oz at a length of 25 inches- actually, not a big difference at all.
The scabbard is beautiful, too (especially considered the fact that it was kind of an “last minute” order ;)
There’s not much more I can say right now, and excessive drooling makes the keyboard too slippery for typing, anyway.

Onkel Bill, thank you for posting all those detailed pix, if now you only could be so kind to tell me what to do the next seven or ten days I have to wait for “her”?! :D This is some weird kind of torture… wanna play!!

P.S.: Black Bear, the Falcata is not my brainchild, I merely tried to make a model that was somewhat based on the few data that were available on an ancient type of weapon (used mainly by Celt-Iberian tribes and Thracians) This type of blade is thought to be the ancestor of the Khukuris, since many Historians think that it has been adopted by the troops of Alexander the Great, who brought them to Asia

Right Anton,

This would probably have been just the thing Alexander's Indo-Greek successors, like Menander (King Milinda from the famous Buddhist text "Milindaprashta" or "Questions of King Menander," in which he is debated and converted by the monk Nagasena).

I definitely have to have one with the carved scabbard, though!! :D

To answer your question, a falcata was a weapon used by the Celt-Iberians and it was much feared by the Romans because of its incredible chopping ability.

Now, that falcata does look pretty good. Just bring the weight down to about 2 1/2lbs and you've got something that'll outperform the Del Tins. The scabbard is a work of art...very nice!

Anton....you're one lucky guy. This would be a weapon I'd be proud to add to my collection!

Looking at that falcata makes me think that the kamis can probably do a pretty darn good Roman Gladius. Just use the same wood as on the falcata handle to make a round pommel and flattened circle guard.

Then get a bone handle and shape it. The blade is just 19 or 20 inches in length, parallel edged, diamond-cross section with an acute point. Use brass for the base plate of the gladius (at the base of the blade), then get a fancy scabbard like the one in the pic BUT without the religious carvings. It sounds very doable...but they'd need a model, and they'd also have to work on getting the weight down.

Doable, certainly, but like Uncle Bill has said, they need a model to work from or things will go bad...
