I finaly finished my first knife. I copied It from an Apache knife I saw in a museum. It is supposed to look crude and primitive so I blackened the blade to make it look like the knives of that period. I was amazed at the edge it took (Took me 1 hour to sharpen it though) the handle is european stag and the blade is a nicholson file.:o It is actually full tang and I used it this morning for some chopping. on the back there is an indentation for a bow and drill. (the apache knives had that) The blade is 6" I put it near a ohf to show the size. Here are some pics.

Thanks to every one on the forums who gave me advice.
P.S Did you know taking the pics is harder than making the knife?

Good job! Gotta start somewhere and you're ahead of me for sure. I wouldn't have thought to use a file.

what did you use to blacken the knife? I usually boil the blade in saltpeter, but it doesn't always give an even finish

Excellent work I was making worse when I was 14, then I just stopped

hahah now I probley even worse then before,

I dont know where in B.c. you are but if you live near the lowermainland, your welcome to come grind something out on my kmg

I used a spray thingy called tremclad rust reformer. It will wear off eventually and it takes about a week to properly dry but I like it.

Bryce I live in surrey, real close by But how do you know Im 14?

3wolves, your age is listed in your public profile.

Nice looking knife. I like the primitive looking blades a lot. Have you thought about wrapping the base of the blade, tang area, with sinew or even imitation sinew? There is certainly nothing wrong with it the way it is but the sinew might add another look that I know I like and you might as well.

I tried sinew but it covered up too much stag. Thanks bryce but I have every tool I need.

Good looking knife, even though it'll cover some of the stag, which looks great with the primitive blade BTW, it'll be more period corect and would look better IMHO, but it's your knife, make what You want, and how you want, that's one of the plusses of makeing your own.

14 huh, The only thing I know how to do at 14 is not talk to girls and make my parents crazy. I would say that you are way ahead of the game 3wolves. I really like the shape of the blade and how rustic you made it. You really nailed it! The fact that you tried to mimic a knife you saw in a museum shows where your head is at and i think you are on the right track. Keep up the great work and hopefully some day you will be a rich and famous knife maker so I can tell all my friend that I actually knew you when you made your first knife.

We can dream right? Who knows what may happen.
