And now for some good news!

Grob, do you have a site that shows the link between farmed salmon and toxins? This is the first I've heard of it.

Yvsa,

Wonderful news!

I bet if I lost weight, I would sleep better.

I've been stuck around 195 for several years now.

Left the Army at 160.

Didn't leave my army appetite though!

A very inspiring story. I will keep trying again, and then trying some more.

Here's a for instance, what I had for supper tonight and I'm as full as a dog tick on a Louisiana Bluetick Hound Dog for three days!!!! ;)
I had 3 ounces of ground turkey fried with Pam instead of oil or shortening for 165 calories,
a full cup of Oriental Stirfry veggies, steamed instead of stirfryed, with cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, mushrooms, celery, yellow squash, onions, and carrots for 50 calories,
3/4 cup of baked Butternut squash for 120 calories, it's a starch,
and 2 cups of cantelope for 120 calories for a grand total of 455 calories.
That's a lot of food!!!!  :D

Compare that with an 12 ounce steak for 660 calories,
a small baked potato, 3 ounces for 80 calories,
a tablespoon of butter for the potato 120 calories,
and 2 slices of bread for 160 calories
and with a tablespoon of butter for the bread another 120 calories,
and you have a grand total of 1,140 calories for not very much food!!!!:thumbdn:  :(

Some days I eat 1,140 calories all day long just by eating lots of veggies and fresh fruit and only 3 ounces of ground turkey, chicken or fish! :D
Most days I eat between 1,300 and 1,500 calories but that's because of the 60 calories for 1 piece of fruit I eat between meals.

Compare that with an 12 ounce steak for 660 calories,

i'd be all about just the steak. gimme gimme. don't trim the fat please.

i like my fruits in small amounts, and seasonal.

this time of year, i CRAVE icecream. gunna have to backoff on that ;) everything in moderation.

Tom

the more and better sleep you get, the easier it is to lose weight as well...

and it wouldn't hurt to do a few pushups every day :>

Good news, Good job. Congrats. Are you doing any activities or exercise? Gathering wild greens sounds like a great excuse for a hike:) .

Shann and Andy the ear stapling does decrease hunger and considerably when they are put in the right place. There are a couple of "doctors" here in Tulsa that have been trained where to put them for proper hunger relief. Once the first ones are in place and seem to quit working as well the staples can be moved a couple of millimeters either way to accomplish your goals to a point. They recommend after being on them three months to go off of them for a month.
And you can eat a full cup of cooked veggies for 50 calories when that huge steak or pork chop contains 55 calories per ounce!!!!:thumbdn:  :(
Eat lots of veggies both cooked and raw and you won't be hungry between meals and if you are eat a fruit instead of a candy bar.
I also started drinking diet soda pop when I found out the diet Barq's root beer tastes as good as their regular. Now I need to find some low sodium flavored soda pop that is diet that tastes good. I wish CocaCola would use Splenda in their original recipe. Coke just doesn't taste the same as it did when I was a kid and they used real sugar instead of corn syrup.:grumpy:

Thanks Yvsa. Answers my question perfectly. I agree about coke. Don't do a lot of candy bars, but do eat a lot of sunflower seeds. My Dr. made me switch to diet coke a year ago. He said the 7 cokes I drink a day was going to give me diabetes. I'm not much of a cofee drinker, so Coke was my ritual. I've since gotten used to the diet stuff, and cut back on the # consumed as well.

Well done, Yvsa!! Glad to hear you will be around for a while.
The wisdom you share in all things does not go unnoticed.

Keep up the good work. And I'll try your stir fry approach to eatting since I need to drop some weight as well! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Congrats and all the best, Wally

Yvsa, I'm just so glad to hear this. I've been keepin you and your family in my prayers for a long time now, and it sure is nice to get some good stuff.

Congratulations!

Chris

Good for you Yvsa! That has to feel great. I wish I had your discipline and planning. I know that having a good woman to help with meal planning can make all the difference in the world, as trying to do it on your own doesn't usually work too well. My meal planning usually consists of a quick call to Round Table and grabbing a Dos Equis.

My biggest problem is being behind a desk all day, and then eating junk at all hours of the day and night. I do usually eat from each of the 4 food groups daily though: frozen, canned, take out and microwaved. :D

Andy, you're on the right track with the sodas. I once lost over 60 pounds when I was in my 20's, and did it primarily by cutting out the regular cokes, beer (that one hurt) and walking several miles a day. That was about it; I still ate pretty much what I wanted. But I was also very motivated and in the throes of passion with a young lady, and that helped quite a bit from a self-esteem standpoint.

Yvsa, I hope you'll keep us notified of any further progress. It must be great to be able to walk as you did years ago.

One little step at a time.

You may eventually want to give up the pop altogether. I'm not convinced the artificial sweeteners are much better for you than the sugar.

Water is good. Herbal teas also. You already know some, and other elders can show you more.

There are some other sweeteners out there that are natural and taste really good. Agave Nectar comes to mind. We use it alot..it doesn't cause nearly the blood sugar spike that refined white sugar does.

You can also get unrefined cane sugar (organic so you don't get a dose of pesticides...and yep I lived next to a Cane field in Maui--they DUMP tons of poison on that stuff). The herbal tea with just a touch of cane sugar or honey are amazing.

Honest Tea makes some incredible iced herbal and traditional teas with just a touch of cane sugar. And they taste amazing too:thumbup:

I mostly drink a sort of lemonade. Barbie buys the lemon juice concentrate from Dollar General and then mixes a certain amount of it along with a certain amount of Splenda and fills it with purified water from our PUR water filter on the kitchen faucet. I limit myself on the Diet Barq's Root Beer because of the sodium in it. The Aspartame may not be good for you but it isn't anymore of a killer than sugar for an old fat man that could just as easily had diabetes.:o ;)

So far I haven't found the will to quit beer. I don't know that I ever will. It took three dr's opinions for my grandad to give it up. I thought he gave up to easily.....
