And so seeks a brash youth a first khuk

Does anyone here have a hanshee-style khuk? If so, what's it like?

Well, I have one... but I can't tell you what its like. I won it in a raffle to send a kami's son to med school. Its the only one I haven't used. So many people did so much work on it that I wouldn't feel right marring it up. This one has trophy status:

I have lusted after those villager BAS' for some time now. They are like a pretty girl without any makeup on. Elegant in their simplicity. I just never had the extra cash to drop on one when they came up on the deal of the day.

So True :thumbup::)

Yes River R. You are correct, Sir!!
Another victim indeed!!!
Gotta love it....:)

Hey anybody have an idea when us Sharkies get to bite today??

I have the same hanshee kothimoda from the july 4th DOTD this year and i did just a little chopping to see how she felt, then cleaned a buffed her back to shape and put her away.

Hanshee's are more weight forward than other khuks, but balances it very well despite being a rather hefty khuk at 19 inches. it seems a little trickier to hit the sweet spot and not drive the tip with them ,but i'm confident that with enough practice that wouldnt be much of an issue. In short i guess i'd have to explain it like this: Handling a hanshee after handling an Ak,Siru,etc... is kinda like going from a C class mercedes to lambo countach.:D

That is a beautiful knife.
For all the BS about a well made katana, I think a khuk can match a katana for beauty. I mean, what makes a katana beautiful? Grain structure of the steel? The devotion of its design to a purpose? What about a well forged and polished khuk isn't polished, and what about the design isn't frightfully devoted to chopping through animal and vegetable alike?
I really hate you people for this new addiction. There's no way I'm going to be able to afford this.
That said, I love you people.

Dude, you can't afford this?

Seriously, don't, as in DO NOT, go to the Busse Combat forum. Talk about can't afford. . . I dropped over $700 my first two days there and only got 2 knives!

At least with HI, although I spent over a grand the first month, at least I got 3 kukris, two knives and a sword out of the deal.

Oh, BTW, I'm one of those rare guys that doesn't like katanas -- at all. Give me a claymore anyday. I think kurkis are great, the polished ones look real nice and some, like the Kothiomodas and Bhairabs are flat stunning.

I also do not normally like katanas, but I do like my HI katana.

I'll second the motion on the Busse forum. I have around 30 Bussekin knives and probably around 100 khukri all together. It happens fast and it's hard to get away. Every time I think I'm out they come out with a new model I have to have.:D:thumbup:

Wow. I'd be happy with 5. Maybe. Then I get strange ideas like... "I wonder what a hanshee-AK would be like," or, "I wonder if they could make a 46 inch Sirupati..."
I guess I can look forward to the weight loss of picking khuks over food. Double bonus, lose the love handles and gain beautiful cutlery.
For those of you with katana antipathy, what about the nihonto-style blade turns you off? Or is it just that they're cliché?

Well, they made a 40" Ganga Ram. . .

Well, the kool-aid crowd goes to the point of sheer stupidity in some of the things they claim for katanas, but really, it just doesn't do anything for me. It's not in my blood. I just never liked the design.

For me, the high polish of a real nihonto simply reflects my poverty back at me. :(

Otherwise I'd be all over 'em... but an Everest Katana will have to fill the niche!

That 40" Ganga Ram might be worth selling my P6 just to facilitate owning one. I will have one of those one way. Even if I need a hand truck to move it from place to place.
One question stands, though: which would you rather take to battle, a comically large Ganga Ram, or an Everest katana?

This is true, but I do love the notion of being able to cut through cover. I mean, it's one thing to be able to shoot through an engine block with AP rounds, but how cool would it be to be able to cut through that engine block to slay your oppressor?
I kid of course. A more realistic comparison would be a katana against a Kobra or Sirupati of similar length.
