...the Kershaw RAM!

I just picked up one for less than $40 new and I must say I am very impressed with this knife. I think you get more bang for your buck with this knife than most other low end offerings from other companies.

I love Spyderco but I think you get more for your $40 from a RAM than from a Delica. The Buck Vantage Pro is a good deal, but it doesn't have the great lock the RAM has. I don't think any of the Benchmade red class folders can top it.

Just my opinion.

Dont you think you should use it for awhile first? I still havent found any folder better than the spyderco centofaunte III period.

RAM is definately an excellent knife for $40... but its still hard to beat sub $15 Opinel carbon in terms of value ^^ But RAM has superior steel, design and so forth ^^ Congrats of getting excellent knife.

:thumbup:I love the RAM.It's one of my favorite Kershaws.

Nah, this is the internet. Here we get to make impulsive judgements and pass them off as the gospel truth:D

I love (LOVE) the first Centofante Vesuvius with the compression lock. I'm not crazy about then newer versions. The last thing I need is another lock back design.

For me the best value was a G10 Byrd Cara Cara. I've owned 2, waved them, and gave them away for Bday presents. At a hair over $20, I might pick up a few more for Christmas presents.

A $30 Buck 110 with sheath at Walmart gets my vote in this category, though I acknowledge never having my hands on a RAM. The Tenacious at $35 or so is dang hard to beat too. Good stuff.

Honestly with all the blades I can get at that price point, I could not pick a favorite. My Spyderco Native S30V from Golden cost me 39 bucks w shipping on the web in 07. I still carry it on a regular basis. I think what is good, is that companies are competing to offer quality knives at that price point - everything else is gravy.

Best value, and best folder is always in the eye of the beholder (owner). :D
To me the ZT0200 is the best value in a folder, even though it does cost $130.

Exactly. I think it's the UKPK. G10, S30V and phenomenal ergo's for $95.

The RAM is a absolutely awesome knife.

The amount of excellent knives for $30-50 right now is astounding.

Kershaw RAM, Zing, Skyline
Spyderco Tenacious, Persistence, Native
Buck Vantage
Boker Trance, Hyper, M-Type
CRKT Tuition, Summa

Good point, but the knife is too big and heavy for todays society/modern man.

The Buck lacks a pocket clip, adjustable pivot, and an acceptable strength to weight ratio. I appreciate the classic nature of the Buck 110, and that its domestically produced, but there's no need for a knife to be that heavy if the extra weight doesn't contribute to its strength in any meaningful way.

About some of the other choices like Rough Rider, Byrd and Tenacious: I wasn't considering knives made in China. Because of the slave labor nature of their makers they will always beat the prices of knives produced by free workers.

Don't take the above as a slam: I own several Byrds and I'm sure every electronic device in my house was made in China (except my computer and camera, which were made in Malaysia). I just think $40 for such a good knife that's USA made is an exceptional bargain---even more than the Wally World Native.

Are you saying you haven't found any folder or any budget folder better than the Centofante III? I really like Spyderco and the Centofante series is great, but there are folders out there that would chew up the Centofante and spit it out.

I will admit that it is a great budget folder, but to even suggest that there is no folder that is better is a very bold statement.

The RAM is an awesome knife. I've actually been looking into picking up one of the original RAMs made by Grant and Gavin.

...the Kershaw RAM!

I concur! It does pretty much everything right. My opinion might be a little biased but I think that few designs at any price point come close to the value you get with the R.A.M.

G10, USA-Made, good steel and an outstanding lock. Only thing that really comes close right now is the Manix 2.

If you double your funds and go $80 and I've even seen it for $70, you can get a 154CM/G-10 Manix 2, you will not find a better folder than this at this price point, well maybe a gripper, but I still think Manix 2 is unbeatable..IMO... But in terms of Kershaw, the G-10 Needs Work is awesome as well...
