With all the outings i've been on, I come to the conclusion I take way to many unneeded items, mainly knives. These are the three I feel get the most use and are really all that's needed, for me anyway.
A large fixed blade for bull work, a SAK for smaller jobs and a pocket chainsaw for firewood. The large blade can split wood after it's sawed. I've also get my survival pack down to the essentials needed with no doubles.

Very good, I've allways liked going light. My PSK, USMC or Masterhunter and Vic Rucksack. Oh yeah, flashlight and GPS :D

Joezilla had one of those pocket chain saws when we went backpacking last fall. They are pretty cool:thumbup:

I'm with you there Scott, most of my pack weight seems to be knives :D I usually have new ones I want to try, along with old faithful ones I can't leave behind. I definitely know you are more than covered blade wise with those three. I'd feel fine with JUST your custom actually!

tknife, I also usually have blades to try out but I reserve that for the woods behind my house or the property I hunt on. If I was car camping, no problem bringing more but that last trip I went on with a mile hike was a hard lesson on carrying way too much gear.

Nice set up. Thats about all you need. What is that bowie?

It's the Tusker I make. I have others large blades I could also take in it's place. Case bowie, Western bowie, RTAK, Browning Competetion knife and a few others.

I like it. it reminds me of a BK7 or a RD7. What are the specs on this baby? I like the handle, stabilized wood?

I have several versions I make The mini-Tusker, regular Tusker in a 5 and 8 inch blade, with or without a guard and this one is the Big Boar tusker. It's a 1/4" thick, 1 3/4" wide with an 8" blade, 1" choil 13" overall. A2 or O1 steel. If you want more info email or call me. Don't want to go to far OT here. :)

Fonly I hope you back up the GPS with a compass as well. I have a Vista and it has been on the fritz lately, Garmin GPS have a rep of conking out fairly easily.

fonly: im sure its old news, but it new to me. i really like what u did w/ the belt and the ka-bar.

Scott,

When I saw your pic I had planned to ask who the dude was that made the FB....It seems my plan doesn't really fit now that you've lived up to it (I knew it was one of your knives--of course).

You've been getting some good magazine coverage (Tatical Knife I think -- I go through the knife mags so many times that I have them memorized by the time the next one arrives, but I sometimes forget which magazine I remember what from). Congrats...you deserve the coverage.

I agree with you on the knives that are really needed. I carry only 3 myself. It is either a 4" FB or a Spyderco Manix, a 111mm SAK with saw, and a folding saw (the one Kershaw carries).

Let's see, I'm down to about 10 - 11 months to wait for the custom you are making me. It's the small boars tooth (I think that's the name).

Thanks for sharing the photo and your thoughts.
:)

Three in fact :D

BTW, thats on thing I love about this garmin, awsome batteries time. went 8 hours on 3/4 full batteries.

Thank you. Quite simple, took a belt, cut it off, stuff the rest in the buckle, left enough room for a ferro rod. :D:thumbup:

Scott's knives are downright awesome! I used that tusker pictured at Marty Simon's WAR event in September last year and I fell in love with it. It is beefy and it screams utility. Scott and I battoned with that knife and chopped away along with others that wanted to give it a try. After all of the cutting was done, it still shaved arm hair.

You can't go wrong with Scott's knives.
