cost being a non-issue (which it never is), ......I own several SS Police like pictured below...and Endura models and.........

......ive CUT MY HANDS several times with a tight grip...due to the SHARP inner edge of the inside rim of the SS grip-plates. :grumpy: :grumpy:

A dremel tool sander, and buffer and polish wheel removed that problem 100%...., but i cant be the 1st person to deem this a problem on production SS Spydercos.

would take SEKI CITY about 10 secounds to take that sharp-a*@ edge off so that a TIGHT grip doesnt cause cuts on hands.

All too frequent problem, even with blade backs or handle edges, on other companies' knives also. Laser cut metal will have that sharp edge, I guess.

What I do is buff the edge with a ceramic stick. (A Sharpmaker white rod works fine.) I also buff sharp thumbstuds the same way. Takes a few moments.

thanks for info... :D

unlike the common dufus (not referring to you), im actually a "GOD" with the dremel tool :D

so grinding , sanding, and polishing 2 of my carry Spydies was pretty darn easy stuff.

I still cant believe i bought my Spyderco POLICE models for $68 off of ebay

darn, thats CHEAP  :D

That's how we can afford them, by shopping around, waiting for the right price to come to us. If there is a knife you have to have now, you will pay. I generally scan the Exchange forums here, and I've found knives and gear I was glad to get at the price asked, much less than dealers.

Dremel is the way to go for quality modding. On the other hand, I can sharpen most knives better freehand now than many guys can do with guided systems. It has to do with knowing what result I want -- durable or slicing, toothy or polished,, convex or slight secondary bevel. Once you learn to use that Dremel, there's no limit to the games you can play. :)

The sharp inner edge of liners and even FRN always bothers me, so I generally sand them down too. Its just another "process" that adds to the eventual cost of the knife which we'd have to pay for in the end and its only a couple of minutes of work on our side.

I can live with it.

And yet,
I, like I'm assuming most others, don't have a problem with the edges.
So why should we pay more?

Hmmm...that's curious. I just checked my PE Police and a PE Catbyrd for sharp edges and couldn't find any, other than a sharp corner on the Catbyrd.

No great mystery. With the near infinite variability in humans, some will be more tolerant to sharp edges due to some combination of genetics, work environment (calloused hands), and mental outlook (it don't bother me). Then there is the variability of manufacturing that will allow specific knives to correctly pass through quality control yet have an annoying burr or sharp inner handle edge.

I had a Volpe whose "spydie hole" was obviously laser cut out but left a nasty burr. I ground it down. (great knife the Volpe)

:)

Heh...that's very 'Zen' of you...er...Zen. ;)

Funny you should mention the Volpe. I think that it is one of the finest made Spydies in the bunch and there is one in my pocket as I type this. I have been trying to decide if I should pick up a second one and I think that the synchronicity of your mentioning the Volpe, just made up my mind. Thanks!
