I went through a mall today looking for alternate tins for PSK's and didn't find one, but I did find some travel style plastic soap holders that will work like a charm. $0.99 and just a couple ounces. Add a ranger band and maybe a ziploc bag (they aren't sealed). They will hold a lot more than an Altoids tin, but are still comfortably coat pocket sized. I got mine in a drugstore in with the travel sized products.

No reason you couldn't put a little RTV on it and completely waterproof it, you would have to reapply if you had to get into it but it is for emergencies, so that shouldn't be too often. Chris

D U C T T A P E, the all purpose, fixit, sealit and attachit tool. No kit should be without it. :D

Yup, I figger if we ever run outa duct tape, paper clips, zip ties, super glue, and drywall screws, modern civilization will come to a grinding halt.

Back in the early eighties when I was a kid building PSKs these were usually my containers of choice. Cheap and available almost anywhere.

I havn't held one in my hands, but online the Coghlan's soap caddy looks like a pretty good container with an attached lid, plus it comes with an attached lanyard, which I would replace with a breakaway lanyard. Stuff it full of goodies, wrap it in duct tape and paracord it just might make a fairly good PSK.

+1 on that eyegor. I still use them if I'm building mini kits for other people becuase of the low cost. I think my first PSK in a soap dish is my parent's attic or shed someplace.

I should warn them about that, it has strike anywhere matches, mixed mag-alum filings and a piece of steel wool that is probably a mass of rust by now in it.

I generally try to avoid plastics and lexan... For the same weight, I can carry an Aluminum box, and then use it to boil water. Multi-purpose!! I have found several aluminum soap caddy's on that Evil Auction site as well as in garage sales.

This type of soap dish was issue gear when I was in the service. When opperating in jungle or rice paddys, smokers kept cigarettes and matches in these sealed whith tape usually held at back of steel helmet with rubber band cut from a jeep tube (pre-ranger band) i dont know how long the tape will hold if held under water for any length of time, but it will survive a dunking or high humidity

Can't post pics, but I bought a pack of johnson & johnson bandaids that were in a cool red plastic box 1 3/4" x 3" x 4 1/4"s with a snap top lid I took the bandaids out & put then in a ziplok bag. the cool box will get cool psk stuff!

http://www.watertightcase.com/products.html is another good source for Otterboxes.

I have a skinny version that is just big enough for credit cards, ID and folded bills. In general this style case is pretty heavy. I think the weight is justified for $$$$$$ electronics, but my PSK contents are not water sensitive. The real idea here was to get a good pocketable size box. For the ultimate in lightweight waterproofing, Aloksaks are a great way to go.

Oh dont get me started on blummen PSK containers!!
Im always looking for/buying something different. Or I get something & then think Hmmmn, nice container, I'll keep that & use if for a PSK. Ive got an Aluminium fligt case full of various tins, pots, tubes & boxes!!!!
