Just came across these knives while browsing the net, not sure how they warrant costing what they do ?

According to the blurb this what makes them special.....

YXR7 steel is a material that is not easy to make into a knife. However, its high hardness and high toughness make it an excellent choice as a cutlery steel. Its one fault is that it rusts somewhat easily. However, when it was given a mirror finish and coated with DLC (Diamond Like Coating) this fault was avoided, with the added benefit of permanent beauty. The ROCKSTEAD knife is the strongest knife in the world. The three-layer knife is not as strong as the YXR7 type knife, but its sharpness is unsurpassed. This type of knife has the same unique characteristics: the Kitano Edge and mirror surface. However, we do not recommend it for usage as rough as the YXR7 can handle.

People have to keep reinventing the wheel. And the salesmen keep their jobs by saying "Ours are better than theirs". :barf:

I was there some years ago. They think they invented forging......
Fair quality at a ridiculous price........:thumbdn:

Pretty stuff, especially the swords, but way out of my price range. As for the knives in the OP, no way in hell am I paying that much for a knife, no matter what kind of mysterious magical steel it's made from.

from what i've researched YXR7 is a hitachi toolsteel that is suitable for machine parts that require a fair bit of toughness.

i still dont think i'd every buy that knife though. i could probably buy the same steel from a supplier, have it shipped to one of the custom makers on the forums, have them make the knife and ship it to be for not even half of that cost.

i agree with others that its pretty but not worth it. i'd rather buy a buncha barkies and busses with that money : p

Their DLC (Diamond Like Coating) looks just like a 1911 I saw recently that had a Nickle-Boron Nitride finish. Almost chrome looking but thinner film build, harder, and a dark, almost tinted look to it as opposed to hard chrome.

Its an expensive process but not that expensive. Especially on a single piece of steel with no moving parts.

At 18 lbs you'd need to buy a gym membership with that axe, even if you only planned on swinging it around for fun.

I have noticed that some Japanese and European companies think that Americans will pay exorbitant prices for their products. Since I see these knives posted for sale on BF and other forums once in a while, they seem to be right.

But its made from hand reared unobtanium and costalotium, and the price reflects the great sense of humour (or optimism!) that the seller has!

These knives surface for discussion every now and again. I hadn't seen the fixed blades before, and the axe seems to be advertised on its appearance in a fiction series. Wow, Rambo will be jealous.

Anyway, they are just knives, not Wilderness & Survival tools, so I've moved this to the General Knife Discussion. :)

Well hell, I thought these things were gonna be $40k or something judging from all the replies.
A grand to a few grand. meh
For those fixed blade prices you could get a custom maker to build one with exotic steels.
