And you thought Busse were expensive !!!

I've never even heard of them! I can think of many makers that make knives worth that... but those things???

If anyone has bought one, or knows anyone that has please post a pic. I wouldn't think many has sold at that price, and would almost bet no one here has fell for it.

I have heard of them. They have never appealed to me. There are far too many other custom makers that I am interested.

Go to the Rockstead website, download the manila rope cutting video. Watch the incredible performance, and then you can make snide remarks if you so desire.

They have remarkable steel with incredible edge retention.

And no, I can't afford one either. But I wish...

I have been to the Rockstead site. Their knives just do not appeal to me.

I can buy that Suz. You are a very educated buyer. You know what you like and what you don't. And you do your homework before you make your decision and speak your mind.

I just don't care for snide comments made before the person who makes them understands what he is looking at.

Touchy, touchy!

The comments are not snide, they're a humorous critique on the knife and axe.

However you look at it, its a great deal of money, irrespective of how well the knife slices through manila rope!

Well maybe they'll bring it to Blade for Jerrys(Busse) standing challange.
If anyone knows anyone there tell them to get in touch with Jerry...if they take the challange and win it could only help there buisness.

After he cut through over 2000 feet of hemp rope(all that would fit in Van) at a past Blade not a one has tried to match that. One company talked the talk last year and was sent a challange, but refused.

I still don't understand what I am looking at. Vassili was initially doing 800 cuts of manila in his testing, there's the 2000 cut Busse challenge, there's Phil Wilson's testing. This is 789 push cuts with punctuated slicing of glossy paper, on the bias, from the point of hold. Don't know how much force in the rope cuts, don't know a more accurate measure of sharpness. The bamboo vid is a little worse, some of the slicing is done with only the tip, which was not used to chop, and the chops were pretty weak, as to be expected by such a small blade.

The knives are beautiful, but where is the actual comparison, and any subsequent actual demonstration of superiority? I really don't care much for tests in a vacuum. I don't know when a knife at 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, or 1/30th the price stops performing in these tests. The performance alone can't justify the price if it isn't quantified. Easy enough to compare prices, but no actual performance comparison.

Though I don't think performance alone justifies prices at this level anyway.

Like I said, "make the comments after you know what you are looking at."

Then, have at it.

I like the looks of the knives. If I had just won the lottery, I might splurge on one. But from where I stand, that's a helluva premium to pay just to have an extra 8 months without sharpening. Besides, I enjoy sharpening.

Rockstead make some great knives, they are pricy but their laminate steel and F&F is hard to beat.
They look a bit too much like microtchs IMO and are made with a similar styled 2 piece handle on the folders.
The fit and finish on these knives puts alot of knives to shame and the designes are very functional, if you get
the chance to play with one you will be pleasantly surprised.

The pricing is so high on the knives in the link because that site is from the UK where all knives cost 2x what they
do in the US, add to that Japanese luxury item pricing and you can start to see why the numbers are 4 digits and not 3.

I know a guy over hear who collects Rocksteads and he has some of the
super rare early knives that are priced high enough to make your face fall off.

look cool, but i think a bunch of knives are nicer and certianly would out perform that kife. Id bet my life that a mixture of similar sized busse equal to the cost (2g or so) would out cut that thing any day of the week. A knife that expensive just aint for using imo. Its more like art--which is what id use it for if i wanted such a fine piece.

The Rockstead marketing lingo is all over the map, which just bolsters their image as a hyped wannabe. They say their knife is the "Formula One" of knives. What the heck does that mean? F1 is a racing class, with many competitors figuring out who's the best. Maybe they meant to say their knife is the F1 of knives and they have been coming in last for years, lol. Then they give a simple convex grind a fancy Japanese name, probably hoping folks will think it's rare and special and only previously came on samurai swords. I agree, if they want to be taken seriously, cut the hype, test your product against your competitors, and publish the results. Or, at least, cut the hype.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Nice but too much for my wallet at this point of time.

expensive-shmekspensive
oh, come on, its Rockstead!
Japan labor is expensive, steel is good, grind is unique, F&F are usually great
I dont like then much but know some Rockstead collectors and users.
