Andre Thornburn - what is it and what's it worth?

First off, no it's not for sale. Sorry. I just got this as a gift and know very little about it. Does anyone know what model this is, when it was made, and it's approximate value. It appears to be carried with scuffs as shown on the G10? scales. The blade is pretty clean with only a couple of superficial hairline scratches.

Thanks in advance!

Cory

A gift? I'd say it's priceless, especially in that you have someone in your life generous enough to give you an Andre Thorburn.

It appears to be an L44. No idea when it was made, but if it were sold new today it would be around $550-650.

Considering it's condition, I'd say it would be worth about $350-475. It's looks pretty rough from the pics.

Absolutely! A gift from my Dad. Priceless. I just have no clue what I'm even looking at here. I'm a virgin:confused:

Thanks! I was hoping you'd see this thread and reply! Much appreciated.

Well, I can tell you that they aren't inexpensive, and the quality is up there. A great guy here who has a lot of info about em, Blues Bender should be along shortly to help you out with more info.

Edit: Speak of the devil!

Also, congratulations on an excellent knife!

Looking into this more, I would guess that it's dated 2013 or later based on the clip. I think around 2014 he started to use composite clips quite often, then went back to stamped clips as of late.

Hopefully Marthinus will stop by and clear this up. He knows André personally.

Awesome gift Cory!! Give your dad a hug!!!
Enjoy it!!! Thorburns are known to be fantastic flippers!!!

Thanks Joe! Anyone who knows me knows that I EDC a Sebenza. It is well broken in and definitely the smoothest knife I've ever experienced. This baby though? It's on another level. Now I know what butter feels like.

I guess a better question is blade steel. I assume M390? I could be way off though. There are no markings whatsoever.

The majority that I have seen have also been N690. There's a chance it could be M390, André uses it sometimes, but we'll probably never know! The knives I have from him came with a birth certificate like a CRK does, so if possible, try asking the original owner.

How did your dad know to pick that knife out for you? That's quite a nice gift! I'd be lucky to get a SAK from someone on a good day:D

I know what you mean Tyler!!! I got this one!!! My 12 year old was so thrilled to get this for me!
He was in the mall with mom and couldn't resist!! I had to carry it for months!!
Too funny!

Someday I'll need to take a picture of some of my gifts, Joe. Apparently being a knife collector means that I wanted a $30 sword for my birthday:D

Blues you are smack on the money with it being the L44.

The date on it can vary, but remember the first ones I saw with that clip and on that model was back in 2012. Steel is most likely N690, from your pictures I can see the grain of the steel, a telltale sign of N690 that has been mirror finished and then hand rubbed satin.

It is a very nice gift from your father and a superb knife.

I laugh at imagining (and seeing) some of the knife "gifts". I have my own 12oz spring assisted partially serrated "pocket" folder that I was very touched to receive but that made me sigh inwardly with a quite OH MY  :D. Sadly I will never likely receive a Thorburn as a gift :(

Glad for you Corytr. It is a very excellent gift and a near perfect knife. Congratulations
