How do you prepare for a big knife to arrive!? I carry a bigger one for a few days before the new one arrives. Thats just what I did for the arrival of this beast. For the last few days I've been carrying my Rajah I by Cold Steel. This folder by Andy at 8.3 ounces seems like a light weight to me now! :D

Seriously, I ordered this folder some time back right after really taking to the Cold Steel American Lawman folders and the Triad lock. Andrew, in my opinion is making the best hard use, (true hard use) high performance custom folder on planet earth at this time and Cold Steel's offerings in the Triad lock production knives are really showing a lot of folks open to trying them just what they are made of also. Quite honestly they are hard to beat for the money if you just need a true beater that can take pretty much whatever you dish out to it. I had to have one from Andy before they became too much in demand to even get one in good time. That was my fear initially once I realized just how good the production versions were. I'm not disappointed at all. I have not had it long. In fact it just arrived but some folks insisted that I post right away as to my thoughts and feelings about it once I got it in my hands. So here you go with my thoughts and feelings. I think this knife should be on the cover of every magazine about knives in the world!

Smooth as silk, heavy, capable, confidence instilling, designed from the ground up to take what is given to it. Razor sharp, rock solid lock up, supreme blade steel of CPM154 in a 5mm thickness and a super primary hollow grind with a point plenty good for picking splinters but thick enough to hold up to real abuse. I'd have never put hollow grind and hard use in the same package myself but seriously Andrew has made it work in his folders. All these things are noted right away and come to mind looking it over. The textured carbon fiber I ordered is just like what I've used myself a time or three and not so aggressive it tears up pants but grippy enough to allow for a good hand and finger purchase to get hold of the handle even if wet or sweaty or in foul weather.

The .100 thickness liners in my folder are solid and bead blasted. I'm sure it would be possible to get this knife down to about 7.5 ounces or less by taking some metal out on the inside to skeletonize them but personally I like the solid ones. I ordered mine with the ti rear spacer/spring holder also and and that is a whopping thickness just like the rocker arm which are both slightly thicker than the blade. Even the pocket clip is .055 thickness! Everything about this knife screams abuse me I dare ya! Yet its a good looker at the same time its tough as nails.

Anyway, for now thats about all I can say as I have not had it any longer than it took to excitedly open the box, say OMG wow and all the other things one says when amazed and then snap some pics, weigh it, take some measurements and check in here to show it off to the world! ;)

Again for the record what we have here is this:

Andrew Demko Custom American Lawman folder w/ Triad lock made to order for STR
8.3 ounces
.100 thickness titanium liners
textured carbon fiber scales trimmed down from .200 stock.
5 mm thickness CPM154 blade at 3 and 9/16" length open
5.2 mm thickness rocker arm and spacer/spring holder
.050 ti spring
5 and 3/16" closed length
just a bump over 5/8" thickness still being slim lined enough to make for easy carry in the pocket.
Lastly I ordered mine with a twist. I got it with one of Andrew's patented thumb plates for opening it off the pocket. I'm so glad I thought to do that too. It works great!

wow!! that is a beast!

i emailed him about ordering a custom, but haven't heard back.

i love the lawman blade profile, but would prefer the tang to be hidden by the scales. i was thinking a rajah type handle, but with the drop point blade.

thx for the pics, im jealous.

Yeah at first the tang thing bothered me too on the American Lawman. I've had so many like the Para Military and many slip joints with the tangs sticking right up there as knuckle busters though that the American Lawman at least is not that bad though. I must admit I do like the way the Recon 1 model looks when closed but for me the overall appeal of the AL was the way it fit my hand once opened and in use. That trumped the closed position look thing.

I do agree though that if there is an issue I'd like to see improved that would be it but its no big deal as is either. I do like this knife though. What a beast!

Congrats STR. :D

That's an Ounce heaver than mine.

Very cool indeed, Andrew did an excellent job on yours too. :D

Can't wait until he gets my CF twin of the one I have now done. :D

Good luck with that, STR! I'm seriously jealous, bro. How's the handle fit your hand? Is it as good as the production AL? How about a pix of the custom in-hand?

That is beautiful STR. I assume from your comments that you ordered this knife just the way you wanted it , you chose very well.

Once again , a beautiful knife !

Yes I was very specific in my requests and Andy was great to work with meeting all my requests better than expected. He wasn't real sure how to do a thumb plate on it I don't think as he had not done one of these with that before but he nailed it quite nicely. I'm quite pleased with it to no end! Not sure I can get pics of it my hands but maybe the wife can manage if I can pry her away from her garden long enough.

Okay the wife was willing to snap a couple for me. I took a couple others before that of it beside the G10 (linerless) model of the Cold Steel American Lawman so you could see at least some reference to it beside a known model. I've owned a lot of great knives but this is really, at least to me anyway, the grail knife in hard use folders. I'll never touch what this knife is actually capable of doing I don't think but in the event the need were to arise its nice to know I have my "Armageddon folder" hands down choice for if and when all hell does break lose! :D

Looking good STR. :D

STR,
That is a great looking folder..... I would love to see Andrew make it with an M4 or 3v blade..... Then it would be a MUST HAVE, it probably already is, but a really "tough", carbon steel, would seal the deal for me! Regards, Steve

Well, I'll bet Andy can make em in anything you want so long as he can find the steel in the right thickness. I thought it over pretty well before getting mine and finally elected to go with CPM154 because he had it, I liked the steel just fine and basically it was always between that and S30V. Basically I have a lot of S30 and not but one (this one) of the CPM154 so that made my mind up right there. Besides that they are pretty close to the same steel aside from the vanadium carbides diff.

Anyway, I'm thinking Andy is going to be quite busy and having no problems filling his contract limitations for how many knives he can make a year after I get done plastering this thing all over the place. Its worth shouting about.

That's a beautiful knife. I love my CS American Lawman, but this is in completely different league. That Tri-Ad lock is tough as nails! Congrats with your new knife;)

Andrew should be finished with my Espada based folding fighter within a week or so.

Great looking folder. What is the small hole just above the finger choil for?

It could possibly be a hole to put a safety pin in.
