How do you prepare for a big knife to arrive!? I carry a bigger one for a few days before the new one arrives. Thats just what I did for the arrival of this beast. For the last few days I've been carrying my Rajah I by Cold Steel. This folder by Andy at 8.3 ounces seems like a light weight to me now!
Seriously, I ordered this folder some time back right after really taking to the Cold Steel American Lawman folders and the Triad lock. Andrew, in my opinion is making the best hard use, (true hard use) high performance custom folder on planet earth at this time and Cold Steel's offerings in the Triad lock production knives are really showing a lot of folks open to trying them just what they are made of also. Quite honestly they are hard to beat for the money if you just need a true beater that can take pretty much whatever you dish out to it. I had to have one from Andy before they became too much in demand to even get one in good time. That was my fear initially once I realized just how good the production versions were. I'm not disappointed at all. I have not had it long. In fact it just arrived but some folks insisted that I post right away as to my thoughts and feelings about it once I got it in my hands. So here you go with my thoughts and feelings. I think this knife should be on the cover of every magazine about knives in the world!
Smooth as silk, heavy, capable, confidence instilling, designed from the ground up to take what is given to it. Razor sharp, rock solid lock up, supreme blade steel of CPM154 in a 5mm thickness and a super primary hollow grind with a point plenty good for picking splinters but thick enough to hold up to real abuse. I'd have never put hollow grind and hard use in the same package myself but seriously Andrew has made it work in his folders. All these things are noted right away and come to mind looking it over. The textured carbon fiber I ordered is just like what I've used myself a time or three and not so aggressive it tears up pants but grippy enough to allow for a good hand and finger purchase to get hold of the handle even if wet or sweaty or in foul weather.
The .100 thickness liners in my folder are solid and bead blasted. I'm sure it would be possible to get this knife down to about 7.5 ounces or less by taking some metal out on the inside to skeletonize them but personally I like the solid ones. I ordered mine with the ti rear spacer/spring holder also and and that is a whopping thickness just like the rocker arm which are both slightly thicker than the blade. Even the pocket clip is .055 thickness! Everything about this knife screams abuse me I dare ya! Yet its a good looker at the same time its tough as nails.
Anyway, for now thats about all I can say as I have not had it any longer than it took to excitedly open the box, say OMG wow and all the other things one says when amazed and then snap some pics, weigh it, take some measurements and check in here to show it off to the world!
Again for the record what we have here is this:
Andrew Demko Custom American Lawman folder w/ Triad lock made to order for STR
8.3 ounces
.100 thickness titanium liners
textured carbon fiber scales trimmed down from .200 stock.
5 mm thickness CPM154 blade at 3 and 9/16" length open
5.2 mm thickness rocker arm and spacer/spring holder
.050 ti spring
5 and 3/16" closed length
just a bump over 5/8" thickness still being slim lined enough to make for easy carry in the pocket.
Lastly I ordered mine with a twist. I got it with one of Andrew's patented thumb plates for opening it off the pocket. I'm so glad I thought to do that too. It works great!
