I just got my Spartan back from Andrew Demko after getting him to remove the "hump" and polish up the blade a bit. I couldn't be more thrilled. Not only does the knife look awesome but it now waves easily, consistently and smoothly. Check out the picture... (unfortunately the picture really doesn't do justice to the polishing job)

Ps I don't know why the pic doesn't show up here and you have to click on the link.

Looks awesome man, i wish the spartan came that way from the factory. Nice clear and level passage on that spine for a smoother wave opening and you got rid of that horrible bead-blast finish. Every Cold Steel I get with that finish gets automatically polished. Great looking knife brother

That's all you had him do? I coulda done that in 15 minutes :p

Here you go. And yah CM cudda done that.

Even though others could have easily done the job I'm really glad I got Andrew to do the work. He designed the knife and I think he had a particularly good eye for creating a new line that blends perfectly with the line of the original cutting edge. In addition to doing a great job on the things I asked for he was also unexpectedly meticulous with details such as smoothing out the locking action and putting a good edge back on the knife. As a bonus it also turns out that he was also VERY reasonable in his pricing and very prompt in getting to the job immeadiately after the knife arrived. I seriously doubt anyone could have done a better job for less.

BTW, as an afterthought I probably should have had the false edge sharpened (since it's safely protectected by the exagerated hand grip).

Need a better picture to see the real difference.

Would be awesome if you got the handle materials changed.

True enough. The handle material makes the knife look a bit like a toy. On the other hand that's really what I like about it. It looks , in many ways, like a cheap piece of junk when in fact it is STUPID strong and just about as close to a fixed blade as you are going to get. When it comes right down to it I don't really care how it looks. The important thing is how it performs. The only knife that would probably serve my puposes better would be a (four times the price) Emmerson Super CQC8. That's only because, while the Spartan waves well, it doesn't flick easily and can't be reasonably be opened with one hand. The Emmerson can be waved, flicked or "one hand" opened. Sadly, In terms of strength the Emerson would actually be a step backwards (at four times the price!).

Maybe I'm a spaz. I can flick it but it's far less forgiving than pretty much any other knife if it isn't done right. I've had a bunch of cold steels in my posession and this one is the hardest by far to open with the thumb screw. If you can do it good for you.

BTW, insisting that the thumb plate makes it easy to open doesn't make it a fact. If that's what gets your panties in a knot so be it but as far as I'm concerned it's an awkward knife to open using the the thumb screw. That is a the fact and I don't want to be dicking around when I need the knife open.

First of all, as a 34 year old man, I don't wear panties (if you do, well great).
Secondly, it is a thumb plate, not a screw. Terminology matters in having a discussion where people can understand what is being communicated.
It is not at all awkward to open for anyone with a normal human sized thumb. If you think it is, go find the one hand openers from the 1980's...now THERE were some awkward ones to open.

That settles it. Your my hero. I guess I'll have to rethink the knives I decide to use based on your preferences.
I quite frankly don't give a flying ..... what YOU think of the knife I may or may not carry. I take a large size glove and have been weight training without break since you were 4. I doubt that my hand size or strength has anything to do with it. If you think the knife opens easily good for you. Now how about getting a life and picking a fight over something actually worth getting your panties in a bunch over.

I have two Spartans and while I like the wave feature and large blade I find both somewhat clumsy and difficult to open using only my thumb.

Edited to add: I just tried my Rajah 2 and even though its larger its considerably easier to open.. go figure.

BTW this is exactly why this forum has a reputation for idiotic exchanges.

I have held the Spartan, but deem it way too big to EDC. I just have no need to be carrying around that much metal. I would like to one day buy a Ti lite. I think they are pretty cool.

It appears to me that Stabman was opining in your thread without malice. You did the insulting not him.

So, I Thought This Would Be Interesting.
Turns Out It's Stupid...
Anyways.
It Is NOT A FACT That The Knife Is Hard To Open. It's Your Opinion That It's Hard To Open, Not The Rest Of The Worlds Opinion, The Knife Is Hard For You To Open, We Get It. So Chill On The Fact Thing.
Also It's NOT A FACT That The Knife Is Easy To Open. It's Stabman's Opinion, The Knife Is Easy For Him To Open, Why Argue About It?
So None Of What Your Arguing About Is A Fact, So There Is No Argument.

Sounds To Me Like Your The One Getting "Your Panties In A Bunch" Over Something Stupid And Trivial. As A Matter Of Fact... Why Say "Panties"? Say "Boxers" Since You're Both Men, Or Even Just "Underwear" Would Have Been A Lot Less Offensive.

You Posted Your Knife, Cool, People Shared Their Opinions, And You Threw A Fit Trying To Make The Opinionated People Seem Like The Fools, When You're The One Who Ends Up Looking Like A Fool In The End.

Nice Knife. Though, I Would Have Went With Charlie Mike, His Spartan Is Kick Ass. - And That's My Opinion, Not A Fact, So Say What You Will, But I Have A Right To My Opinion Just As You Do.

You Think The Work Andrew Did Was Best For The Price, I Think Charlie's Work Would Have Been Even Better.

Thanks for the good laugh. Anyways, nice knife. I'm actually a Spartan fan. For such a cheap knife it is pretty capable.

Does anyone know if he mods the new Voyager line? I'd love to send one of mine to him for a full treatment.

Please stop doing that.

There is no reason whatsoever for you to be initial-capping every word in every sentence you type. It's distracting and make everything you type harder to read.

And while I'm making polite requests...

That settles it. Your my hero. I guess I'll have to rethink the knives I decide to use based on your preferences.

Relax, would you? There's no reason to be that upset over this.
